Billing Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented Billing Specialist to join our growing private practice. In this role, you will manage insurance claims, process patient payments, and resolve billing and coding discrepancies to ensure our operations run smoothly. It is preferred that this person work in-office, but open to local remote workers.

Job duties for this position include the following:

•      Responsible for greeting and preparing patients for the health care provider while maintaining a positive and caring attitude.

•      Responsible for preparing and submitting clean claims to third party payers either electronically or by paper.

•      Coordinates collection process and tracking current collection.

•      Manages weekly statement process, to include reviewing statements before processing.

•      Identifies and resolves patient billing problems.

•      Responsible for denial and insurance follow-up management.

•      Responsible for submitting adjusted, corrected, and/or rebilled claims to third party payers in a timely manner.

•      Responsible for posting electronic remits (ERA), manual payments and adjustments, transfer of responsibility and refunds, as necessary and in a timely manner.

•      Assure coding is compliant, accurate and up to date.

•      Reviews accounts and makes recommendations to Supervisor regarding non collectible accounts.

•      Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.

•      Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 The qualifications for this role include the following:

•        High school diploma/GED with 2 years or any combination of education and work experience in a customer service-related role. 

•      Experience working with medical payers including Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance.

•      Previous experience working in a medical/clinical setting.

•      Working knowledge of medical billing systems.

•      Working knowledge of coding practices.

•      Working knowledge of computers, internet access, and the ability to navigate within Microsoft Office Suite, or similar programs.

•      Athena experience preferred.

•      Certification in billing and coding preferred.

•      Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
