Behavioral Health Billing Specialist / Credentialer

This position is in person, with flexible scheduling at either our Hooksett location. Compass of Hope is looking for a dedicated billing specialist that is ready for a challenge to clean up our A/R and get our accounts current, and improved workflows billing. Compass of Hope provides compassionate, client-centered behavioral health services. We have established billing workflows that we want help improving and are seeking a skilled , detail oriented billing specialist to manage our full billing cycle using our AdvancedMD.

Position Summary

The Billing Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of our medical billing operations from eligibility verification through claims follow-up, credentialing and client communication. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of hands-on billing experience with AdvancedMD. Must be able to uphold charges kindly, and provide education when clients have questions.

Key Responsibilities

• Insurance Eligibility Verification: Complete insurance benefit checks for new and existing clients prior to services (minimum of 48 hours).

• Full Claims Management:

  • Prepare and submit accurate electronic and paper claims through AdvancedMD daily.

  • Monitor claim status, correct errors, and ensure timely payment posting daily. 

• Aging & Follow-Up:

  • Conduct aggressive follow-up on all outstanding or aged claims, initiating follow-up no later than 31 days after submission.

• Credentialing & Enrollment: Credential our providers with insurances as needed, and ensure CAQH updates are regular.

• Client Communication:

  • Respond promptly and professionally to client billing questions.

  • Serve as the “face” of the billing department with compassionate and clear communication.

• Reporting:

  • Provide regular financial and claims status updates to management. Ensure claims marked as paid were received weekly. Keep an accurate record of unpaid claims over 30 days with actionable steps to be taken to collect payment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year experience using AdvancedMD for billing (required)

• Minimum 2 year of medical billing experience in behavioral health or medical practice setting

• Demonstrated competency with insurance eligibility checks, prior authorizations, claims submission, denial management, and payment posting

• Experience in provider credentialing required

• Strong organizational, communication, and follow-through skills

• Ability to interact with clients in a professional, respectful, and empathetic manner
