Scott County Catholic Schools is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and mission-driven Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of our Catholic school system. Working under the direction of the Controller, the Assistant Controller helps oversee day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, tuition processes, audit preparation, and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting knowledge, sound judgment, excellent organization, and a commitment to supporting the mission of Catholic education.
What You’ll Do·
- Support the Controller in managing accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls.
- Assist with annual budget preparation, forecasting, financial analysis, and budget monitoring.·
- Prepare, review, and approve routine accounting transactions within delegated authority.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Process weekly and monthly ACH payment files through the bank website.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, tuition processes, and collections of past due balances.
- Assist schools, parents/guardians, and SCCS staff with ESA and tuition-related questions.
- Track and report tuition payments and discounts across SCCS schools.
- Assist with Foundation accounting, including review of bank statements and investment accounts.
- Help prepare for the annual audit and support compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Provide day-to-day guidance to accounting staff as assigned and serve as acting Controller during the Controller’s absence.
What We’re Looking For·
- Associate’s degree in accounting or a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred.·
- Five years of related accounting experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Excellent organizational skills, time management, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Strong computer and data entry skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, collaborate with others, and handle routine accounting issues with good judgment.
- Knowledge and appreciation of Catholic faith life; Catholic in good standing preferred.
