JOB TITLE: Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable Specialist
REPORTS TO: AR Assistant Manager/Assistant Controller
HOURS: 40 Hours Per Week
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY: The Accounts Receivable/Payable Specialist will be primarily responsible for monthly billing, in addition to assisting with the accounts payable process and other duties.

DUTIES: The following list identifies the essential functions of this position but does not limit other duties that may be assigned:
- Prepare, review, and process monthly program service grant and contract billings processes to ensure optimal revenue cycle.
- Completing and tracking program member reimbursement claims.
- Verify payment summary vouchers (PSVs) for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Analyze denied claims, investigate discrepancies, and liaise with necessary parties to secure maximum reimbursement.
- Maintain meticulous documentation of submitted claims, payments, denials, and follow-up activities.
- Reconcile incoming daily cash receipts and maintain the corporate cash ledger.
- Formulate and distribute complex Accounts Receivable program invoices under strict deadlines.
- Aggregate and audit source documentation, including benefits records, check copies, and timesheets.
- Support Accounts Payable closing activities by identifying accrued liabilities and ensuring proper period matching.
- Deliver critical documentation and analytical support for internal, external, and funder audits.
SKILLS: Good typing and data entry skills; Microsoft Office Suite knowledge. Intacct or similar enterprise level accounting software a plus; good organization skills and adequate verbal and written communication skills. A candidate should be a quick learner, with a strong ability to adapt to change.
QUALIFICATIONS: 2-3 years of accounts receivable and payable experience. Previous non-profit history is helpful.
EXPECTATIONS FOR REMOTE WORK: Approved work location (4th street or the address on file), Change in work location or traveling – approval needed from management, Timekeeping requirements are the same, Communication and responsiveness are expected to be maintained same as in office.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Work with people experiencing homelessness whether on the streets, in shelters or other places of habitation or services, may present inherent challenges and difficulties such as: exposure to bed bugs or other infestations, unpleasant smells or odors, individuals who may have poor hygiene or unclean homes due to homelessness, mental health symptoms, or poverty. Additionally, in working with our members, employees may encounter instances of profanity, sexually explicit or derogatory language, or verbal or physical expressions of anger and trauma. Very rarely do these situations ever escalate to physical contact, and negative or derogatory communication patterns can often be negotiated successfully. All direct care staff are provided adequate training to develop skills to deescalate crisis situations that may arise and Step Up has established procedural safeguards for all employees to mitigate (but not eliminate) these inherent risks of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Keyboard data entry required.
