Job Description

The Accounting Clerk supports the Accounting Department, primarily focused on processing settlement checks along with other daily accounting tasks. This is a detail-oriented, transactional role requiring strong organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to handle a high volume of financial data efficiently. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the accounting team to ensure all settlement checks and financial transactions are completed accurately and on time.

Duties/Responsibilities – including but not limited to:

Settlement Check Processing

• Receive, track, and process client settlement checks.
• Accurately enter settlement check information into applicable systems and tracking records.
• Prepare checks and supporting documentation for deposit and processing.
• Verify check information against supporting documentation before processing.
• Maintain accurate records of checks received, deposited, processed, and distributed.
• Identify missing or incomplete information and coordinate with appropriate team members to resolve discrepancies.
• Assist with researching outstanding or unprocessed settlement checks.
• Follow established procedures and internal controls for handling settlement and client-related funds.

Accounting Support

• Perform routine accounting data entry and transaction processing.
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as needed.
• Assist with bank deposits and account reconciliations.
• Enter and maintain accurate information in accounting and related systems.
• Organize invoices, receipts, check copies, deposit records, and other supporting documentation.
• Research transaction discrepancies and obtain necessary backup documentation.
• Assist with month-end accounting activities as requested.
• Maintain organized electronic and physical accounting records.
• Provide administrative and transactional support to the Accounting team.
• Assist with special projects and other accounting-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Comfortable processing a high volume of transactions and performing repetitive, detail-oriented work.
• Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
• Experience with accounting software is a plus.
• Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
• Ability to handle confidential client and financial information appropriately.
• Dependable, organized, and able to follow established procedures consistently.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively with the Accounting team.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required; accounting or business coursework is a plus.
• Prior experience in accounting, bookkeeping, banking, cash handling, or financial administration preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. 
• Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
