Petra is made up of highly experienced professionals across the US and Europe. In a business where accuracy and timeliness are paramount, having a deep bench who have spent years working inside of asset managers is what truly differentiates us.
Our foundation is built on trust, experience, and uncompromising accuracy. Our people are experts. We work collaboratively. We are relentless in our process and put attention to detail first.
The Role:
This role sits directly with one of Petra's clients, an established alternative investment manager with a long-standing real estate investment platform. The firm takes a fundamental, value-oriented approach to investing and operates across real estate debt and equity strategies, including complex joint ventures, closed-end and open-end funds, and opportunistic investments.
The Tax Analyst will support the tax team with day-to-day tax administration, reporting coordination, and ongoing organizational projects across investment funds and related entities. This is an opportunity for an early-career professional with a general accounting background and an interest in developing their tax knowledge within the alternative investment industry.
The role will involve recurring tax-related responsibilities as well as longer-term projects focused on improving processes, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the broader tax function. The position offers exposure to investment tax operations and opportunities to take on more technical responsibilities over time.

- Support the development and maintenance of tax basis databases and related tracking schedules.
- Help maintain tax documentation and records across partnerships, corporations, and other investment entities.
- Assist with data gathering, validation, and organization for tax reporting and compliance projects.
- Support ongoing file cleanup, data organization, and process improvement initiatives.
Team Coordination & Operational Support
- Work closely with tax team members to support day-to-day operational needs and longer-term projects.
- Provide regular status updates on assigned responsibilities, outstanding items, and project progress.
- Assist with tracking recurring deliverables and maintaining organized tax records.
- Communicate proactively with team members to resolve questions and ensure timely completion of assignments.
- Take on additional tax preparation and reporting responsibilities as technical knowledge and experience develop.
Qualifications:
- 1–2 years of accounting, tax, or related experience preferred; entry-level candidates will also be considered.
- General understanding of basic accounting principles and financial information.
- Familiarity with tax entity structures, including partnerships and corporations, preferred.
- Basic knowledge of K-1s, tax forms, and tax documentation is helpful but not required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with spreadsheets, databases, and financial records.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage recurring responsibilities and longer-term projects.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines.
- Proactive communication skills, including providing regular status updates and raising questions when needed.
- Dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling administrative and documentation-focused responsibilities.
