Staff Accountant Grants and Contracts
The Staff Accountant – Grants and Contracts is responsible for the financial management, billing, and reporting of grant- and contract-funded programs. This role ensures accurate revenue recognition, compliance with funding requirements, and effective coordination with internal program staff and external grantors. The position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of grant-related financial data and supporting organizational audit and reporting needs.
Summary of Duties
- Collaborate with the Accounts Payable Specialist to ensure accurate vendor setup and proper 1099 classification for contracted services.
- Prepare and issue annual IRS Form 1099s in compliance with federal requirements
- Perform grant billing functions (monthly, quarterly, or as required), ensuring timely and accurate invoicing across all assigned grants.
Maintain effective working relationships with grantor contacts and serve as a point of contact for financial inquiries. - Monitor grant expenditures and provide regular reporting to program managers on over/under spending relative to budget.
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports for program staff, department leaders, and senior leadership related to grants and contract
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the accounting and finance function.
Compensation and BenefitsWCMHS provides a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, retirement, and a generous paid time off package including flexible holidays and 12 vacation days in year one.
The pay range for this position is $72,000.00 - $75,000.00, annually.
Qualifications
Summary of Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience; nonprofit or grant accounting experience preferred. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and reconciliations.
- Experience with grant billing, compliance, and reporting is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with both financial and non-financial staff.
Work Environment
In this faced paced environment, familiarity with nonprofit funding streams and contract compliance is preferred. The incumbent should be detailed oriented and have the ability to analyze financial data and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
