The Senior Risk Manager (EMEA) strengthens risk management performance across EdgeConneX's data center delivery portfolio. Working with multidisciplinary teams and strategic partners, this role supports Project Managers on risk identification, assessment, and mitigation, and supports the VP of PMO EMEA on portfolio-level risk management. The Senior Risk Manager drives consistent application of EdgeConneX's risk process — risk register discipline, QSRA, contingency planning, and risk reporting to customers, lenders, and internal management — and reports to the VP of PMO EMEA.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers across the EMEA portfolio in running the risk management process — establishing risk context, facilitating risk identification workshops, and keeping each project's risk register current and aligned with EdgeConneX standards.
- Partner with the VP of PMO EMEA to consolidate and report portfolio-level risks, surface cross-project themes, escalate systemic issues, and prioritize portfolio-wide mitigation actions and contingency reserves.
- Drive consistent application of EdgeConneX's risk assessment methodology — likelihood/impact distributions, risk rating, and risk score — ensuring risks are properly classified (managed, mitigated, materialized, retired) with supporting evidence.
- Coach Project Managers and project teams on mitigation and contingency planning, ensuring viable Plan B / Plan C options exist for key risks and that owners, actions, and deadlines are captured in the risk register.
- Support the Sr Scheduler with execution of Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (QSRA)
- Prepare recurring and ad hoc risk summaries for customers, lenders, internal management, and project teams, including content for the (bi-)weekly PMP deck.
- Facilitate or attend monthly risk review meetings — reassessing existing risks, capturing new ones, evaluating mitigation plans, assigning action items in collaboration with the project manager, document outcomes in the risk register.
- Monitor scope changes, emerging risks, and portfolio constraints; escalate per the EdgeConneX escalation process and support resource allocation for contingency execution.
- Mature risk management across the regional portfolio by capturing lessons learned, maintaining a library of common datacenter risks and proven mitigations, and embedding these into onboarding for new Project Managers, as well as when new projects are initiated.
- Represent EdgeConneX on risk matters with strategic partners, general contractors, third-party assurance consultants, and customers.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Fluent English and proficiency in at least one additional European language.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to coordinate across functions, influence without direct authority, and drive issues to resolution.
- Solid understanding of data center construction practices, project sequencing, and the risk profile of large capital projects, including the roles of general contractors, BCEI, engineering, and third-party assurance partners.
- Experience supporting projects or programs exceeding multiple individual $200M projects, including portfolio-level risk reporting, process improvement, and performance analysis.
- Demonstrated proficiency in qualitative and quantitative risk assessment, translating risk register data into prioritized action.
- Advanced proficiency in QSRA — Monte Carlo simulation, triangular/beta distributions, and interpretation of CI, SI, CRI, and SSI outputs.
- Proficient with Primavera P6 (and/or Cloud), Microsoft Project, Excel, and PowerPoint; confident with risk register tooling and integrated master schedules.
- Skilled facilitator of risk identification and review meetings, fostering a safe environment for team members to surface risks without judgment.
- Self-starter with sound judgment, strong interpersonal awareness, and the ability to prioritize across multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced, globally diverse environment.
- Effective stakeholder management, including customers who are themselves experienced datacenter builders.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, lessons learned, and high-quality deliverables, with strong attention to detail and to safety as a non-negotiable element of project risk.
Experience & Education
- 7+ years of risk management, project controls, or project management experience in data center, construction, energy, or real estate.
- Track record performing or leading QSRA on complex capital projects with serial/parallel activity networks.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Construction Management, Risk Management, or a related field preferred.
- Professional risk or project certification, such as PMI-RMP, IRM, PMP, CCRMP, or equivalent, preferred.
Travel
- 25–50% travel across EMEA, with flexibility for short-notice travel in response to emerging project risks.
