Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results

People:

• Creates a positive, accountable, and collaborative team environment aligned with Ryan’s core values.
• Leads, coaches, and develops consulting professionals through technical guidance, performance management, training, and career development.
• Oversees project staffing, resource planning, workload distribution, and utilization across concurrent engagements.
• Establishes consistent implementation methodologies, quality standards, and delivery best practices.
• Supports recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and professional development of Tax Technology team members.

Client: 

• Leads complex indirect tax technology implementations from project initiation through deployment and post-go-live support.
• Serves as a trusted advisor to client tax, finance, accounting, and IT stakeholders.
• Oversees the implementation lifecycle, including requirements gathering, solution and process design, configuration, ERP integration, testing, cutover, and hypercare.
• Manages project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, financial performance, and risks across multiple engagements.
• Reviews functional specifications, testing documentation, and client deliverables to ensure quality and implementation readiness.
• Supports proposals, client presentations, engagement planning, and identification of additional service opportunities.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree or Master's degree from a four-year college or university and a minimum of seven to ten years of experience providing indirect tax automation and implementation services is required. Accounting, Tax, or Information Technology degrees are desirable.
• Experience working for a consulting firm, tax software provider, or systems integrator delivering enterprise indirect tax technology implementations is strongly preferred.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is a plus.
• Demonstrated experience leading multiple full-cycle enterprise software implementations from requirements gathering through production deployment and post-go-live support.
• Extensive knowledge of indirect tax technology software solutions is required, specifically Vertex O Series or OneSource Determination.
• Extensive ERP knowledge specific to tax determination and finance. The ideal candidate has experience working with and designing SAP ERP Sales and Distribution (SD), Materials Management (MM), and Financial Accounting (FI) modules in SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA.

Computer Skills:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience working with enterprise systems, databases, reporting tools, project management platforms, or business applications.
• Familiarity with project management tools and collaboration platforms preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to appropriately leverage artificial intelligence tools to improve productivity, analysis, documentation, project delivery, and day-to-day client service while maintaining professional judgment, confidentiality, and data security.

Required Skills:

• Strong project and program management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent engagements and priorities.
• Strong functional knowledge of SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA processes related to indirect tax.
• Experience leading multiple end-to-end implementations of Vertex O Series or OneSource Determination integrated with SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and executive-level communication skills.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence client and internal stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to coach and develop consulting professionals.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience implementing Vertex O Series and Vertex Accelerator or Accelerator+ in SAP environments.
• Experience supporting SAP S/4HANA transformations or migrations.
• Knowledge of REST APIs, web services, middleware, data analytics, or custom tax automation solutions.
• Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, Lean, or other structured implementation methodologies.

Certificates and Licenses:

• Professional certifications such as PMP, Agile/Scrum certifications, Lean/Six Sigma, CPA, SAP, Vertex, or OneSource certifications are preferred.
• Valid driver's license may be required, depending on role assignment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position may directly supervise team members and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Firm policies and applicable laws.

Travel

This position requires periodic travel to client sites, Ryan offices, and industry events. Travel is estimated at 15–25%, depending on client engagements, project phase, and business needs.

Compensation Pay Transparency:

• For certain California based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $158,000.00 - $211,750.00
• For other California based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $144,500.00 - $194,150.00
• For Colorado based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $138,000.00 - $185,350.00
• For Illinois based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $144,500.00 - $194,150.00
• For other Illinois based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $138,000.00 - $185,350.00
• For Maryland based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $138,000.00 - $185,350.00
• For Massachusetts based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $144,500.00 - $194,150.00
• For other Massachusetts based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $138,000.00 - $185,350.00
