The Senior Bookkeeper/Account Specialist is responsible for performing a range of accounting and financial duties withing a government contracting environment to support the financial functions of the company.
RequirementsKey Responsibilities:
- Recording Financial Transactions: Accurately record all income, expenses, and financial activities using accounting software.
- Reconciliation: Routinely reconcile accounts payable ledgers to ensure accurate postings and balances with vendor statements, reconcile bank statements, reconcile and close books monthly.
- Payment monitoring: Timely monitoring of payments to prevent delays and penalties.
- Reporting: Generate detailed reports on accounts payable, cash flow, and outstanding liabilities.
- Auditing & Compliance: Support audits and ensure compliance with internal controls and legal requirements.
- Tax Preparation: Collaborate with accountants to prepare and file tax returns accurately and on time.
Supervision:
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in accounting or bookkeeping roles.
- Working knowledge with the Federal Acquisition Regulation, Government Cost Accounting Standards, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and Defense Contract Audit Agency compliance.
- Demonstrated experience with bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, closing books on a monthly basis.
- Proficiency with MS Excel (Advanced) and financial software such as Unanet, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
- Proven experience preparing financial statements, reports, and supporting documentation for management and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with audit and compliance processes, including providing documentation and support for internal or external audits.
