Senior Accounting Specialist

Position Summary

The Senior Accounting Specialist is responsible for assisting with all areas of daily accounting functions and assisting in the month end financial reporting of the company. This individual should be experienced in or have a strong working knowledge of GAAP accounting. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are a must. Understanding manufacturing is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in month end close processes including journal entry creation and posting.
• Assist in preparation of monthly balance sheets, profit and loss and cash flow statements.
• Maintain the general ledger and reconcile balance sheet accounts including bank accounts.
• Prepare and send customer invoices on a weekly basis.
• Prepare daily order information and scorecard meeting information.
• File required monthly sales tax returns.
• Help with accounting of customer returns.
• Record customer returns, price adjust customer orders and issue refunds when necessary.
• Assists accounts receivable with collections process when necessary.
• Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit and tax returns.
• Abide by all Howard Company rules and regulations as noted in the Employee Handbook.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• One to three years of accounting experience required.
• 2 years of Accounting classes/accounting degree preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
• Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
• Highly proficient with accounting software, Syteline software is a plus.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for typing, filing, and using office equipment.
• Visual acuity and ability to read small print.
• Hearing acuity and ability to communicate effectively with others.
• Ability to lift and move office supplies and equipment.
• Mobility and ability to move around the office as needed.
