SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

The West Virginia Housing Development Fund (the “Fund”), a quasi-governmental organization providing safe, decent affordable housing across West Virginia, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of a Senior Accountant in our Charleston Office. We are dedicated to increasing the supply of residential housing for individuals and families of low- and moderate-income. We also provide construction and permanent mortgage financing to public and private sponsors of such housing. To date, the Fund has issued more than $4.5 billion in bonds and has financed more than 165,000 housing units since it began operation in 1969. The Funds mission is to ensure that all West Virginians has access to safe, affordable housing, which in turn helps to create stronger communities and a more prosperous West Virginia.

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager - Accounting
Job Summary: This employee will assist the Senior Manager – Accounting in maintaining accurate and updated financial and accounting records. The work requires the applications of established procedures, attention to detail, and applications of generally accepted accounting practices. This employee will have access to sensitive and confidential data; therefore, confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
Essential Functions:
- Prepares daily general ledger entries and month end accruals;
- Prepares or reviews various complex reconciliations;
- Prepares or reviews various complex accounting schedules, analyses, and reports as required; and
- Serves as backup for various critical functions within the department including but not limited to the daily deposit, accounts payable, daily write-up and functions related to write-up; and;
- Responsible for scanning and image review of various department documentation and audit support.

Work Environment/Physical Demands: The employee in this position may be required to sit at a desk for long periods of time. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc.
Required Education/Experience: Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance and two years of accounting experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (proficient in Excel).
Preferred Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree or greater in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or a resume that demonstrates comparable experience in Accounting/Finance. Experience with Sage Accounting software. Experience with Governmental Accounting and GASB.
