Job Description
Senior Reinsurance Accountant
Our client, a growing insurance organization with offices in Texas and Vermont, is seeking an experienced Senior Reinsurance Accountant to join its accounting team. This role will primarily focus on reinsurance accounting, supporting both new and existing reinsurance arrangements while ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and consistent accounting processes.
The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, experience within insurance and/or reinsurance, and an interest in improving and automating processes. This individual will work cross-functionally with accounting, finance, actuarial, legal, risk, operations, and other internal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and reconcile periodic reinsurance settlement statements.
- Support monthly and quarterly close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
- Validate data from internal systems and external reinsurers and investigate discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate documentation supporting settlements, reconciliations, and accounting assumptions.
- Review accounting results to ensure transactions are accurately recorded.
- Support the implementation and accounting treatment of new and existing reinsurance agreements.
- Identify opportunities to improve, standardize, and automate accounting processes.
- Partner with external reinsurers and cross-functional internal teams.
- Support audits, regulatory reporting, and ad hoc financial requests.
- Leverage technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve reporting efficiency, controls, and scalability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- CPA preferred.
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, ideally within insurance, reinsurance, or public accounting.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
Compensation:
- $90,000–$130,000 base salary, plus comprehensive benefits and potential incentive compensation.
