The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Accounting Department responsible for managing critical accounting functions, including month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, account analysis, financial reporting, and audit support. The role also oversees payroll operations, ensuring compliance with payroll and tax regulations, maintaining accurate payroll records, and delivering timely and accurate payroll processing. This position partners closely with HR, Finance, and other departments to strengthen internal controls, resolve issues, and drive process improvements.

Key Responsibilities


I. General Ledger Accounting & Financial Reporting
Own key aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and account analysis for assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
Manage accounting for payroll, employee benefits, accounts payable and accrued expenses, and other operating expense areas, ensure ng transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
Review and analyze monthly operating expenses, investigate variances, and prepare supporting schedules and documentation for management reporting.
Review and approve vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and other expenditures in accordance with company policies and internal controls.
Assist with the preparation of audit schedules and support external audits, SOX compliance activities, 401(k) audits, workers' compensation audits, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
Participate in process improvement initiatives, system enhancements, and the development of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
II. Payroll Administration
Oversee the accurate and timely processing of U.S. and international payrolls through third-party payroll providers, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and international payroll requirement.
Review payroll registers, funding reports, tax filings, direct deposits, and payroll reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy before payroll transmission.
Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations, including wages, taxes, bonuses, commissions, equity compensation, employee benefits, and related accruals.
Own quarterly and year-end payroll reconciliations, including W-2 reporting, payroll tax filings, and coordination with external payroll providers.
Serve as the primary contact for employee payroll inquiries and partner with HR and Benefits teams to resolve issues and support programs including 401(k), FSA, HSA, and other employee benefit plans.
Collaborate with payroll vendors and system administrators to maintain payroll systems, implement process improvements, and ensure timely funding and administration of payroll-related benefit programs.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise


Minimum of 7 years of experience in General Accounting and Payroll operations. Public company experience is a plus.
Must be able to work independently to plan and prioritize own workload while maintaining exceptional accuracy within strict deadlines.
Expert knowledge of the payroll functions and processes.
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
Advanced Microsoft Excel, and Outlook skills, including experience with VLookup, Pivot Tables, Functions, etc.
Extensive knowledge of Paylocity and Time & Labor systems is a plus.
