Construction Project Accountant
Joliet, IL | On-site
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Construction Project Accountant to join their team in Joliet, Illinois. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the accounts receivable process for construction projects, ensuring accurate project billing, maintaining compliance with contractual requirements, and supporting healthy cash flow through proactive collections and financial reporting.
The ideal candidate will have experience with construction accounting, including AIA billing, lien waivers, and accounts receivable management, and will thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Receivable & Billing:
- Prepare and submit monthly AIA pay applications (G702/G703).
- Process progress billings, retention, and change orders.
- Manage the complete accounts receivable cycle to ensure timely and accurate invoicing.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and proactively follow up on past-due accounts.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies to minimize payment delays and improve cash flow.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Prepare, track, and submit partial and final lien waivers.
- Ensure billing documentation complies with contract requirements, owner expectations, and lender guidelines.
- Maintain accurate project documentation supporting billing and collections.
Systems & Financial Reporting:
- Submit billings through owner portals such as Textura.
- Maintain accurate accounts receivable schedules and project billing records.
- Assist with month-end closing activities and financial reporting as needed.
- Ensure accounting records remain organized and up to date.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum 3 years of construction accounting experience.
- Strong experience preparing AIA G702/G703 billing applications.
- Hands-on experience with lien waivers, progress billings, retention, change orders, and accounts receivable collections.
- Understanding of construction contracts and billing requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Preferred:
- Experience with Textura, Sage Construction Accounting, and/or Procore.
- Experience working with owner billing portals and construction management software.
