Position Summary
The Project Accountant is responsible for supporting project teams by managing subcontractor payables, facilitating project set-up, and ensuring compliance with financial processes and reporting requirements. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accuracy in job cost accounting, supporting timely payments, and partnering with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities
- Receive, review, and process subcontractor invoices for accuracy and contract compliance.
- Enter invoices, route through electronic workflow, and process payments within contract terms.
- Research and respond to payment inquiries from subcontractors and suppliers in a timely manner.
- Prepare and execute joint check agreements, ensuring compliance with agreements.
- Coordinate with Subcontract Compliance to collect and assemble subcontractor lien waivers for Owner requirements.
- Assist with backup documentation required for Owner pay applications.
- Support project teams to ensure adherence to established processes.
- Facilitate new project set-up, including cost code maintenance.
- Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to reduce time, improve accuracy, and generate cost savings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 2–4 years of relevant experience.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage high volumes of transactions and multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and listening skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Deadline-driven with a strong sense of accountability and follow-through.
- Proficiency with standard accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred:
- Construction industry accounting experience.
- Familiarity with lien waivers, subcontract compliance, and owner pay applications.
- Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and implement efficiencies
