Project Accountant - Construction

A leading construction corporation located near Salinas is seeking a Construction Project Accountant on a direct hire basis. The Construction Project Accountant will be responsible for managing project accounting, job cost reporting, month-end close activities, account reconciliations, and financial reporting for multiple construction projects. The ideal candidate has strong construction accounting experience, understands percentage-of-completion accounting, and is comfortable working closely with project managers and operations to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full accounting cycle for multiple construction projects.
• Maintain and reconcile job cost ledgers and ensure project costs are recorded accurately.
• Monitor project budgets, committed costs, change orders, and cost-to-complete estimates.
• Perform monthly bank, general ledger, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaid schedules, and account analyses.
• Review subcontractor billings, lien waivers, and payment applications.
• Process owner billings and ensure timely collection of accounts receivable.
• Support accounts payable by reviewing vendor invoices and ensuring proper job cost coding.
• Collaborate with project managers to analyze project profitability, budget variances, and forecasting.
• Prepare financial reports for management, lenders, and external stakeholders.
• Assist with annual audits and provide supporting documentation.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 2+ years of accounting experience performing project accounting.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner with project management teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
