The Role
As a Personal Tax Senior, you will work on a varied portfolio of personal tax assignments covering compliance, advisory, and tax planning matters. You will be responsible for ensuring clients' tax affairs are managed efficiently, accurately, and in line with current legislation.
Working closely with Tax Managers and Partners, you will gain exposure to a broad range of tax work whilst becoming a key point of contact for clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a portfolio of personal tax clients and acting as their day-to-day point of contact
- Preparing and reviewing personal tax returns and Making Tax Digital (MTD) returns with minimal supervision
- Producing accurate tax computations including Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax calculations
- Supporting Managers and Partners with tax advisory assignments and planning projects
- Preparing, reviewing, and submitting P11Ds, including benefits-in-kind calculations and employer Class 1A NICs
- Advising clients on tax compliance requirements and key deadlines
- Liaising directly with clients to obtain information, resolve queries, and provide ongoing support
- Preparing and responding to HMRC correspondence, enquiries, and disclosures
- Reviewing work prepared by junior team members and providing guidance and on-the-job support
- Identifying tax planning opportunities and escalating matters to senior management where appropriate
- Assisting with more complex tax matters including Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, and non-resident issues
- Monitoring workflow and ensuring deadlines are met across your client portfolio
- Maintaining accurate client records using tax compliance software
- Keeping up to date with changes in UK tax legislation and best practice
- Demonstrating a proactive approach to learning and professional development
- At least 4 years' experience in Personal Tax within a UK based accountancy practice environment
- ATT and/or CTA qualified or studying towards qualification
- Strong technical knowledge of UK personal tax compliance
- Experience managing your own client portfolio
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and numerical abilities
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Reliable, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- A client-focused approach with excellent relationship-building skills
- A desire to continue developing your tax knowledge and progress your career
- Salary of £42,000 - £50,000 depending on experience
