Position Overview:
The Payroll Specialist oversees all aspects of payroll processing for the School, ensuring absolute accuracy, strict regulatory compliance, and timely execution. The ideal candidate coordinates all payroll operations in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and has a deep understanding of general ledger accounting, and specialized experience handling institutional retirement systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Execution: Prepare, verify, and execute all School payrolls in a timely, accurate, and secure manner.
- Financial Accounting: Prepare journal entries related to payroll liabilities and ensure proper general ledger (GL) account coding.
- Retirement Reporting: Complete monthly reporting, reconciliation, and compliance requirements for the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS).
- Tax & Compliance Reporting: Prepare and submit all required quarterly payroll reports for the School and ensure flawless annual distribution of W-2 forms.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to applicable local, state, and federal labor laws, tax regulations, and internal School policies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with HR and Finance departments to resolve payroll discrepancies, streamline workflows, and implement process improvements.
- Data Security: Maintain the absolute confidentiality of payroll, financial, and sensitive employee information at all times.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of payroll processing experience.
- Technical Expertise: Strong proficiency in payroll software systems, automated time-tracking tools, and advanced Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables).
- Specialized Knowledge: Prior experience managing TCRS (Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System) reporting or public/educational sector payroll is strongly preferred.
- Core Competencies: Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate financial data clearly to diverse stakeholders.
