Job purpose
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurately and efficiently processing the company’s payroll, serving as a key point of contact for employees on payroll-related matters.
Duties and responsibilities
- Communicate professionally and effectively with employees and independent contractors to gather necessary payroll information
- Calculate wages for both employees and independent contractors
- Calculate overtime, deductions, and other applicable payroll items
- Accurately enter payroll information into payroll systems
- Prepare and process payroll through the designated payroll system
- Process employee benefits deductions and wage garnishments
- Respond promptly to payroll-related questions and concerns from employees and management
- Prepare payroll reports for management as requested
- Prepare and reconcile payroll schedules to ensure accuracy
- Assist the Payroll Department with additional tasks and projects as needed
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
- Prior payroll processing experience strongly preferred
Specialized knowledge:
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex information accurately
- Demonstrates a high level of efficiency, accuracy, and personal accountability
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with honesty and integrity
- Outstanding organizational skills with strong attention to detail
