Payroll & Benefits Specialist – Bring Your Payroll Expertise to a Role That Matters
Are you an experienced payroll professional who takes pride in getting the details right, solving discrepancies, and making sure employees can count on an accurate paycheck?
3Rivers is seeking an experienced Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our Human Resources team. This is not an entry-level payroll position. We are looking for someone with at least three years of recent, hands-on payroll processing experience who is comfortable owning a weekly payroll process, researching discrepancies, reconciling data, meeting firm deadlines, and working with sensitive employee information.
In this role, you'll be responsible for weekly payroll processing and controls while also administering employee benefits, reconciling benefit deductions and carrier invoices, coordinating employee leaves, and supporting Affordable Care Act compliance. You'll work closely with HR, Finance, managers, employees, benefit carriers, brokers, and system vendors.
We are looking for someone who doesn't simply enter payroll data, you review it, question it, reconcile it, and make sure it's right before payroll is finalized. The role includes reviewing audit and exception reports, investigating unusual entries, documenting payroll controls, conducting post-payroll reconciliation, and identifying recurring issues and ways to prevent them.
You'll be a strong fit if you have:
- At least 3 years of recent hands-on payroll processing experience
- Experience with benefit enrollment, payroll deductions, carrier billing, and benefit reconciliation
- Strong HRIS/payroll system skills
- Intermediate Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, sorting, filtering, and reconciliation of data
- A track record of meeting strict deadlines and catching discrepancies
- Strong attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work
- The confidence to ask questions and escalate concerns before they become payroll or compliance problems
Experience administering FMLA or other employee leaves is strongly preferred, and ACA eligibility or reporting experience is a plus.
If you're an experienced payroll professional who enjoys solving problems, creating reliable processes, and being the person others can count on for accuracy, we'd like to hear from you.

The role requires strong payroll judgment, disciplined follow-through, precise documentation, confidentiality, and the ability to identify, investigate, resolve, and promptly escalate discrepancies. The Specialist partners closely with managers, Human Resources, Finance, employees, benefit carriers, brokers, and system vendors to maintain accurate records and deliver responsive service.
