Job Summary

The Medicaid Billing Specialist is responsible for managing Medicaid accounts receivable, claims processing, billing, collections, and reimbursement activities for multiple Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) throughout Texas. This role plays a critical part in the healthcare revenue cycle by ensuring accurate Medicaid billing, timely claims submission, denial resolution, payment posting, and regulatory compliance.

The Medicaid Billing Specialist partners with facility teams, state agencies, third‑party payers, and revenue cycle leadership to optimize reimbursement, improve cash flow, reduce accounts receivable aging, and strengthen overall financial performance. This position requires expertise in Medicaid billing, long‑term care reimbursement, claims management, and revenue cycle operations.


Qualifications

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; college degree or equivalent advanced coursework preferred
• Prior Medicaid billing experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) or Long‑Term Care environment required
• Strong knowledge of healthcare billing software, including American HealthTech (AHT) and/or HealthMEDX Vision preferred
• Knowledge of Medicaid reimbursement, healthcare revenue cycle management, and long‑term care billing practices
• Understanding of ICD‑9 and ICD‑10 diagnosis coding principles
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
• Team‑oriented mindset with willingness to assist in other areas of medical billing and accounts receivable

Essential Functions

• Process monthly Medicaid claims and billing for multiple Skilled Nursing Facilities
• Create, submit, monitor, and reconcile Medicaid claims
• Analyze, investigate, and resolve denied, rejected, or underpaid claims
• Verify Medicaid eligibility, payer requirements, and resident coverage information
• Post payments and maintain accurate reimbursement records
• Respond to provider, facility, and payer billing inquiries
• Ensure billing is accurate, complete, and compliant with all federal, state, and Medicaid regulations
• Coordinate third‑party billing activities with facility personnel and operational teams
• Collaborate with fiscal intermediaries, auditors, accountants, cost report preparers, state agencies, and insurance carriers
• Monitor accounts receivable balances and maintain aging within established company standards
• Assist with collection efforts and resolution of outstanding reimbursement issues
• Utilize billing software to maximize efficiency, accuracy, and revenue cycle performance
• Ensure proper electronic claim submission and compliance with payer transmission requirements
• Analyze and resolve technical billing issues related to claims processing, reimbursement calculations, resident accounts, and claim transmission errors
• Ensure compliance with Medicaid billing regulations, company financial management systems, and revenue cycle initiatives
• Compile, prepare, and distribute billing, reimbursement, collection, and accounts receivable reports as requested
• Support company DSO, cash collection, and reimbursement goals through proactive account management
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Sr. Manager of Medicaid Services, Director of Finance, or CFO
