Job Duties
The Risk Manager is a professional level position under the general direction of the Executive Director. This individual is responsible for directing the overall administration, management, and supervision of the following hospital-wide programs: Risk Management/Claims Management, Occupational and Patient Safety, and Emergency Management. Serve as the facility’s backup investigator for alleged abuse/neglect, primary investigator for all Peer to Peer and other Center event reviews, and other administrative reviews as assigned by the Facility Director. Responsible for all outside reporting of serious patient injuries and other major events etc. Acts as Center liaison for American Heart Association, Instructor Trainer and coordinator. Directs and supervises the activities of the Center’s Information Center/Front Desk.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Knowledge of acute inpatient psychiatric hospital operations, including clinical practice, patient safety principles, trauma-informed care, behavioral health regulations, and risk mitigation strategies. 2. Knowledge of healthcare accreditation and regulatory requirements, including standards established by The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Life Safety Code (LSC), and applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and licensing requirements. 3. Knowledge of hospital risk management principles, including patient safety, event reporting, root cause analysis, performance improvement, human rights investigations, emergency management, infection prevention, workplace violence prevention, and regulatory compliance. 4. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams including nursing, medical staff, behavioral health professionals, administration, quality, human resources, facilities management, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders. 5. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, interpret, analyze, and present clinical, operational, and safety data to identify trends, evaluate risk, and support quality improvement initiatives. 6. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare concise investigative reports, executive summaries, policies, regulatory responses, and presentations for audiences ranging from frontline staff to executive leadership and regulatory agencies. 7. Demonstrated leadership ability with experience influencing organizational change, facilitating multidisciplinary committees, promoting a culture of safety, and leading performance improvement initiatives within a healthcare environment.
Additional Considerations
Experience in Hospital Risk, Safety, and Emergency Management Science, Data Collection, Evaluation, Manipulation and Presentation, Investigative Process and Report Writing, Program Planning / Evaluation and Supervision.
Bachelor Degree in Professional Health or Safety Related Field.
Experience in Risk Management, Quality Management, Occupational Safety and Health Field.
Supervisory Experience.
Master's Degree or Professional Certification in Relative Field is preferred.
