About Datadog:
Datadog is the leading observability and security platform for the AI era, providing businesses with unified visibility across the technology stack to manage complexity at scale. It brings applications, infrastructure, data, models, and security into one place, using AI to detect and resolve issues before they impact customers. Trusted globally by Fortune 500 companies and high-growth AI leaders, Datadog enables businesses to move faster with clarity and confidence.
The Team:
The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team analyzes company financial data (revenue, customers, headcount, expenses, etc.) in order to support the business's growth and success. Within FP&A, the R&D Finance team enables the financial strategy behind Datadog's Engineering and Product organizations. This role sits specifically within hosting cost and cloud margin reporting, reporting directly to the FP&A Manager who owns hosting cost analysis, cloud gross margin modeling, and forecasting.
The Opportunity:
As the first dedicated analyst hire supporting Datadog's hosting cost and cloud margin function, you will own key components of the recurring reporting, close, and forecasting processes that provide visibility into one of Datadog’s largest and most strategically important cost areas. You’ll partner closely with Engineering, FinOps, Capacity Planning, and Vendor Management through a financial lens, with a clear growth path into broader cloud finance and FinOps scope as you build fluency in the space.
What You'll Do:
- Partner with FP&A leadership to manage recurring forecast updates, review cycles, and board-ready materials.
- Help manage portions of the recurring hosting close, including savings reporting, cost allocation, and key operational drivers.
- Assist in maintaining the hosting forecast models across Excel and Pigment.
- Participate in recurring review cadences with FinOps and Engineering partners to align on capacity planning, savings plan coverage, and cost allocation decisions.
- Partner with Controllership on accounting support for monthly hosting close files.
- Work on ad hoc projects and process improvements, including identifying opportunities to automate recurring, manual steps in the close process.
- Become proficient with financial planning, cost monitoring, and BI tools, including Pigment, Snowflake, Metabase, and Datadog's own Cloud Cost Management (CCM) product.
Who You Are:
- 2+ years of professional experience in FP&A, Strategic Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, or a Cloud Finance/FinOps-adjacent role.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or economics
- Strong Excel skills, including comfort working within large, formula-driven models.
- High attention to detail and reliability on recurring, deadline-driven close work
- Clear, concise communicator who can work independently once ramped, with a humble mindset and 'can-do' attitude
Bonus Points:
- Exposure to SQL, not required on day one, but a skill you're motivated to build
- Exposure to cloud commitment-based pricing (savings plans, committed use discounts, reserved capacity) and how they translate into gross margin
- Interest in cloud unit economics: cost per unit of usage, capacity utilization, vendor cost negotiations
- Experience with or interest in Pigment or similar FP&A planning tools
- Interest in process automation as a growth area within the role
- Understanding of a consumption-based software business model
- Hands-on experience with BI/reporting tools such as Tableau or Metabase
Benefits and Growth:
- Generous and competitive benefits package
- New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan
- Continuous career development and pathing opportunities, including a clear growth track from recurring hosting reporting into broader cloud finance and FinOps scope
- Product training to develop an in-depth understanding of our product and space
- Friendly and inclusive workplace culture
Work Location (Hybrid):
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them. This role will require you to work in the office 3 days per week, and flexible the remainder.
