Position Overview:

The Financial Analyst supports the Museum’s financial planning, reporting, and analytical functions to ensure strong fiscal stewardship and informed decision-making. This role partners with departments across the institution—including curatorial, visitor experience, retail, administration and development—to provide insights on operating performance, budgeting, and strategic initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical financial skills with the ability to communicate clearly to non-financial stakeholders in a mission-driven environment.

Essential Functions:

Financial Planning & Analysis

· Support the annual operating and capital budget processes, including data collection, consolidation, and analysis

· Monitor departmental budgets and provide variance analysis against plan, forecast, and prior year

· Build and maintain financial models for projects such as a multi-year long-term financial model, revenue dashboards, gift / endowment assessments

· Analyze attendance trends, admissions revenue, membership performance, and retail/food service activity

Reporting & Decision Support

· Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for leadership and Board committees

· Translate financial results into actionable insights

· Provide analysis on exhibition economics and program profitability

· Support benchmarking against peer institutions

· Consult with departments and project teams on strategic / financial questions, using problem-solving and analytical skills

Operational & Cost Analysis

· Evaluate cost structures and identify efficiency opportunities

· Support labor/FTE analysis in partnership with People and Culture (P&C) department

· Analyze exhibition cost drivers and revenue opportunities

Data Management & Systems

· Maintain financial models and reporting tools

· Ensure data accuracy across reporting platforms

· Support reporting automation initiatives and the use of AI to further enhance financial analysis

Audit & Compliance Support

· Assist with audit preparation and regulatory filings

· Ensure adherence to nonprofit accounting standards

Perform other related duties as responsibilities require or as directed.\

Requirements and Characteristics:

Required

· Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field

· 3–5 years of relevant experience

· Advanced Excel skills

· Strong analytical and communication skills

· Experience with endowment fund accounting

Preferred

· Experience in nonprofit or cultural institutions

· Experience preparing Board-level materials

· Experience with Oracle Fusion

Work Environment

This role operates in a dynamic, mission-driven environment that demands cross-functional collaboration and manages multiple priorities. Hybrid work is available, with a minimum of three days in the office.
