DIRECTOR, OPERATIONS ACCOUNTING POSITION SUMMARY The Director, Operations Accounting provides direct oversight of key accounting functions for a beverage manufacturing and distribution company. This position applies accounting principles to record, analyze, and monitor financial information and review financial reports. The role is highly transactional-data driven, with a strong focus on process improvement, operational efficiency, financial accuracy, and timely reporting. REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES The following responsibilities describe the general duties associated with this position. Provide assurance regarding the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of all accounting results and management reports distributed by the department.
Maintain reconciled and fully analyzed financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Company policies.
Provide accounting information in response to various departmental requests from both financial and non-financial employees, ensuring that information is communicated effectively and efficiently.
Manage key aspects of the period-end close process and oversee the timely and accurate preparation and distribution of financial reports.
Analyze transactional data related to various areas of the business, with particular emphasis on operating expenditures and capital expenditures.
Provide insight and analytical review to management through the development of detailed and summarized transactional reports, variance reports, schedules, and ad hoc analyses.
Create schedules and build financial and operational analyses using Microsoft Excel.
Summarize complex data and present findings to management and other stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
Identify opportunities for greater efficiency and propose appropriate process, reporting, or system changes.
Lead the department in effectively using the newly implemented Microsoft Dynamics ERP system.
Serve as a resource for accounting staff by identifying efficiencies and leveraging available technology and system capabilities.
Manage employees and provide timely, constructive, and effective feedback.
Review the work of team members and provide appropriate oversight, coaching, development, and growth opportunities.
Work with business partners and retailers to understand the drivers of expense fluctuations and communicate with stakeholders regarding their departmental results.
Gather and provide information necessary to support regulatory audits and rate reviews.
Drive improvements in high-volume account reconciliations and ensure that reconciliations are completed thoroughly, accurately, and on a timely basis.
Ensure that financial and operational information is complete, accurate, timely, and prepared in accordance with Company guidelines.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATION
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field, and a minimum of seven years of related accounting experience.
MBA and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
Related accounting, finance, systems, leadership, or professional certification or training preferred.
Experience managing people, including reviewing work, providing feedback, and supporting employee development.
Experience handling confidential files, documents, financial records, and other sensitive information.
Experience working with a variety of general ledger and accounting systems.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills are required.
Proactive, change-oriented, and adaptable, with a critical eye for consistency and the implementation of new processes.
Intellectual curiosity and a demonstrated interest in the manufacturing, distribution, and beverage industries.
Experience with manufacturing accounting, inventory management, or revenue programs is a plus.
