JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Chief Financial Officer.
Spearheads the Community financial planning, budget and forecast, operating plan variance analysis and supports key strategic projects and initiatives. Evaluates and creates financial and cashflow models for the current and future operations of the Community.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 5+ years of working experience in financial analysis
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is required
- Masters in Business Administration (MBA) would be an asset
- Expert knowledge of Excel and other financial modelling tools
- 2+ years Supervisory experience
- Deep knowledge and understanding of financial analysis and reporting
- Knowledge of Sage, crystal reports writing or Business Intelligence are valuable assets
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with Department Managers

POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL PLANNING & ANALYSIS
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Chief Financial Officer.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
Spearheads the Community financial planning, budget and forecast, operating plan variance analysis and supports key strategic projects and initiatives. Evaluates and creates financial and cashflow models for the current and future operations of the Community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- TECHNICAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepares monthly financial statements and variance analysis report.
- Creates and maintain budgets, forecasts, operating plans and modeling tools across various products and business units to assist with business strategy, operations, and decision making.
- Prepares quarterly forecasts.
- Supports the CFO with analysis, structures, modelling and structuring new opportunities.
- Leads the proper and timely preparation of CRA compliance reports, e.g., HST rebate.
- Proactively identifies critical issues / opportunities that require support.
- Develops financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives and opportunities.
- Acts as administrator of the financial system and reviews the Chart of Accounts to reflect the business operations and reporting needs.
- Prepares ad-hoc reports.
- Ensures that the reports to funders mirror the general ledger and that they are submitted in a timely fashion.
- Supervises and develops a team of Financial Analysts and Financial Control Officers.
- COMMUNICATION FUNCTIONS
- Develops and maintains a good working relationship with department heads and operational teams in order to assign budget responsibility.
- While preparing the variance analysis, identifies errors, communicates them for corrections and in collaboration with the Director of Accounting designs a procedure to avoid future issues.
- Participates in and/or lead special projects, task groups and selected committees focused on quality, systems and process improvements.
- Based on an in-depth understanding of the business, proactively drives areas of investigation and analysis in line with the Company’s goals and objectives.
- Leads, further develops, a committed team of Financial Control Officers.
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Accounting to complete the annual audit process.
- OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Performs other work-related duties as may be required by the Chief Financial Officer.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work requires sound financial management and public relations skills; must exercise initiative and good judgment, ability to work independently; interact with diplomacy and tact; must maintain confidentiality and act in the best interests of Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council; ability to assign, direct, and prioritize tasks for efficient and effective functioning of personnel; subject to deadlines and frequent interruptions.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
With the Chief Financial Officer:
Receives direction, guidance and encouragement; discusses plans and priorities; provides financial information, advice and analysis; co-operative working relationship to maintain upâtoâdate information being provided on the various operations within the department.
With the Reporting Staff and Financial Control Officers:
Provides guidance and encouragement; discusses plans and priorities; provides financial information, advice and analysis; co-operative working relationship to maintain upâtoâdate information being provided on the various operations within the department.
With Other Six Nation of the Grand River Elected Council Staff:
Courtesy, cooperation and teamwork with all staff to improve services provided.
With External Agencies:
Maintains a close working relationship with all Provincial and Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies through positive and coâoperative communication on financial matters; maintains awareness of financial accounting practices and procedures. Maintains awareness of legislation, policy and program changes. Seeks to develop sound and professional working relationships.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
