The Impact of a Director, FP&A at Coupa:
Coupa is seeking a highly strategic and analytical Director of FP&A to lead financial planning and analysis for our global Value Services organization. Reporting directly to the VP of FP&A, this critical role will partner closely with the Chief Customer Officer (CCO) and their leadership team to provide insightful financial guidance, drive strategic decision-making, and optimize performance across the organization.
In this role, you will support a massive, global operation encompassing the Customer Success, Professional Services, Education, Enablement, Support, and Services Operations teams. With a footprint of nearly 1,000 employees and over $120M in annual spend, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment, delivering high-quality, precise financial analysis under tight deadlines. You will act as a key financial steward and strategic partner, embracing the CCO leadership team's focus on innovation, AI transformation, fiscal responsibility, and a rigorous commitment to financial precision.
What You'll Do:
- Strategic Business Partnering: Serve as the primary financial partner to the Chief Customer Officer and the Value Services leadership team, providing strategic insights and recommendations to support business growth, AI transformation initiatives, and strict financial targets.
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of 3 FP&A professionals (1 Senior Manager, 2 Analysts), fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous development.
- Financial Planning & Analysis: Lead the annual budgeting, long-range planning, and monthly forecasting processes for the Customer Success, Professional Services, Education, Enablement, Support, and Services Operations teams ($120M+ annual spend). Drive forecasting, reporting, and analysis for top-line revenue metrics, including bookings, billings, and revenue across both one-time and recurring professional services.
- Performance Reporting & Analysis: Develop and maintain robust financial models and reporting to track key metrics, including headcount/capacity modeling, Professional Services and Managed Services (MS) margins, MS ARR, T&E, contractor spend, and weekly/monthly BvA (Budget vs. Actuals) scorecards.
- Ad-Hoc Analysis: Conduct complex ad-hoc financial analyses to support strategic initiatives, evaluate new programs, and inform critical business decisions.
- Executive & Board Reporting: Prepare high-quality presentations and financial summaries for executive leadership, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to tight deadlines.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial processes, systems, and reporting capabilities to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the Value Services finance function.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other FP&A teams, Accounting, Value Services Operations, and HR to ensure alignment and consistency in financial reporting and headcount planning.
- Headcount & Spend Controls: Support and enable your team to actively manage and reconcile headcount planning, oversee requisition and offer approvals, and meticulously review procurement requests to ensure strict alignment with forecasts and budgets.
What You Will Bring to Coupa:
- Industry Experience: Prior experience directly supporting a SaaS Professional Services organization is required.
- Experience Level: 10+ years of progressive experience in FP&A in a fast-paced, high-growth technology company.
- Executive Presence: Proven track record of strategic business partnering with C-suite and executive-level stakeholders.
- Technical Expertise: Expert-level financial modeling and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts clearly and concisely to both financial and non-financial audiences.
- Execution & Accuracy: Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work with a high expectation of detailed accuracy under tight deadlines.
- Systems Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with the financial planning software Anaplan is strongly preferred. Familiarity with leveraging Generative AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini) to enhance data analysis, automate workflows, and drive productivity is highly desirable.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
