Director–Finance & Accounting

This position offers a starting salary range of $85,500 - $102,600 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Children’s Center of Wayne County (TCC) The Children’s Center, founded in 1929, provides evidence-based clinical therapy to children who deal with mental, behavioral, emotional, intellectual, and developmental health and educational challenges or may have experienced trauma.  
School + Community-Based Partnerships: We partner with K-12 schools and community organizations that serve children to provide clinical therapy, counseling, psychological services, and psychiatric evaluations, treatment & interventions.  
Child Welfare: In addition to the clinical therapy programs offered, The Children’s Center places children in licensed foster homes, and supports them throughout their time in the child welfare system.   
Child Well-being + Family Success: We operate an onsite family success center that promotes child-wellbeing and offers children and youth from all walks of life to access relevant mental health I’m crisis prevention and child abuse and neglect prevention services. 
Advocacy: We champion child and youth well-being for those experiencing poverty-related issues, those within the child welfare system, and those in need of evidence-based, clinical therapy.

Job Summary 
The Director of Finance & Accounting at The Children’s Center (TCC) is a leader responsible for driving the strategic direction and financial operations and outcomes for the organization. The Children's Center is a leader in child well-being, clinical behavioral health, child welfare, foster care, and adoption programs. This position requires a visionary and enterprising approach that supports the strategic vision of the Board and Executive Leadership Team to ensure the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of all financial operations while fostering a positive workplace. Serving in this role means taking a key position in transforming lives and building a culture of excellence in children’s behavioral health, child well-being, and child welfare. 

The Director of Finance and Accounting is entrusted with adhering to a culture of high accountability within the Director’s team and external accounting firm, emphasizing measurable outcomes and strategic goal alignment.  

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and financial management and experience working in a nonprofit 501©(3).
• CPA (Certified Public Accountant) preferred. 
  Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to collaborate with teams across the organization.
• Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and GASB principles.
• Advanced technical and software skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Essential Functions 
The Director of Finance & Accounting works with the President & CEO and Accounting Firm to implement a financial plan that ensures the long-term financial sustainability of The Children's Center's mission. The director will work closely with the senior leadership team, board of directors, and other key stakeholders to achieve financial goals and objectives.

Leadership Team

• As a key member of the Leadership Team, collaborates with colleagues to steward organizational outcomes by developing, executing, and championing strategies that foster a growth mindset among staff, support the agency's mission and achieve its business objectives within the purview of this position.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations to include the annual independent audit, Form 990, audit schedules/PBC requests and management of the external auditor relationship.
  Ensure adherence to all funder and regulatory agency guidelines.
• Monthly review profit and loss statements with all department heads in the purview of this position and make adjustments accordingly and as needed.
• Collaborate cross functionally with clinical programs, philanthropy, and advocacy teams to advance efficiencies that improve agency outcomes and align to the business objectives for the agency

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of financial operations related to procurement, tracking of revenue and expenses, and invoicing on behalf of the Agency.
• Support the strategic vision of the Board and leadership of TCC in examining financial strengths, understanding the complex non-profit business model, and make strategic financial recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Responsible for payroll oversight and management, including approval, compliance, payroll-related GL activity, contractor/Foster Care payments and coordination of payroll funding.
• Responsible for treasury management, cash forecasting, liquidity monitoring, cash positioning and transfer decisions.
• Oversee Agency investment account and investment relationship.
• Serve as a liaison for the Audit, Finance, and Investment subcommittees of the Board.
• Review all accounts payable invoices and check requests in bill.com system.
• Weekly review of the accounts payable to include but not limited to foster care parents and consultants.
• Manage the outsourced accounting function, establishing priorities, overseeing month-end close and ensuring timely and accurate financial deliverables.
• Responsible for grant budgets, restricted revenue and expenditures, grant financial reporting and fiscal compliance.
• Analyze and present the financial results to the CEO, ELT, Board and appropriate Board committees, as well as required external financial reporting.
  Responsible for financial review of contracts, renewal monitoring, vendor agreements, fiscal RFPs and evaluation of financial proposals.
• Responsible for forecasting, sustainability modeling, scenario analysis and multi-year financial planning in addition to annual budgeting.
• Responsible for capital and fixed-asset oversight and related financial controls.
• Collaborate with programmatic, philanthropy, and operational teams to ensure financial alignment.
• Process manual checks with necessary.
• Review credit card summaries.
• Maintain records related to 1099’s.
• Oversee A/R duties.
• Oversee banking duties to include processing transfers, balance review, and managing users.
• Represent the organization at external events, conferences, and meetings to enhance its visibility and reputation within the philanthropic community.

KPIs

• Maintain zero unresolved negative feedback from peers, TCC staff, donors, Board members and committee members.
• Successfully champion at least one TCC strategic initiative on an annual basis.
  Refer at least 6 guests annually to take the TCC tour.
• Submit required reports and other information on an accurate and timely basis at least 95% of the time.
• Improve overall balance sheet strength through disciplined management of liquidity, receivables, reserves, and liabilities.
• Keep A/R aging over 90 days below established thresholds.
• Achieve no material weaknesses or significant deficiencies identified during the annual audit.
• Maintain days of cash on hand and operating reserves at board-approved targets. 

Physical Requirements

• Mobility-non-residential: Ability to traverse stairs and other uneven terrain to gain access to and to maneuver throughout offsite locations including office buildings and special event locations.    
• Administrative Work: Ability to prepare and inspect documents in hard copy or electronic format. Ability to tolerate exposure to computer screens and operate computer/keyboard and other office equipment on a frequent and/or continuous basis.    
• Communication: Ability to receive and exchange information and accurately and effectively communicate and converse with others.    
• Provide Instruction: Ability to convey detailed instructions or ideas accurately.    
• Lifting: Ability to lift up to 10 Lbs.    
• Sitting: Ability to sit for extended periods of time. 

Other

• Obtaining at least 24 hours per year of in-service training and/or continuing education related to the provision of services for their applied population.
• Regular working hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. — 5:00 p.m.
• Ability to work flexible hours including but not limited to nights, weekends and/or holidays as needed to accommodate the needs of consumers and the organization.
