The Role
The Controller serves as a key financial leader and strategic partner to the CEO and senior leadership team. In this role, you will oversee all accounting and financial operations, ensure the integrity of financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, support long-term organizational sustainability, and lead a talented accounting team.

What You'll Do
Lead Financial Operations
- Oversee accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activities, cash management, payroll, retirement plans, and financial systems.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting.
- Maintain oversight of banking, treasury, investment, and cash flow activities.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Drive Budgeting & Strategic Planning
- Lead the annual operating and capital budgeting process.
- Develop financial forecasts and long-range planning models.
- Establish reporting metrics and financial benchmarks that support organizational goals.
- Provide financial insights that help leadership make informed business decisions.
Ensure Compliance & Financial Stewardship
- Maintain compliance with GAAP, grant requirements, tax regulations, and organizational policies.
- Oversee grant financial reporting and contract compliance.
- Manage annual audits and financial reviews, including preparation of supporting documentation.
- Support regulatory filings, including nonprofit tax reporting requirements.
Partner with Leadership & the Board
- Prepare and present financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Provide financial guidance to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives and organizational decision-making.
- Help align financial resources with PPSWO's mission and long-term sustainability goals.
Develop & Support a High-Performing Team
- Lead and mentor accounting staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, trust, and continuous improvement.
- Provide coaching and professional development opportunities for team members.
Qualifications
You're the Right Fit If You...
- Have 10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Have at least 5 years of leadership experience in accounting or finance management.
- Possess strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial management.
- Have experience managing budgets, forecasting, cash flow, and financial reporting.
- Understand banking operations, internal controls, and financial analysis.
- Have experience overseeing grants and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Hold a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Excel at strategic thinking while remaining detail-oriented.
- Communicate financial information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Build strong relationships and collaborate effectively across departments.
Bonus Points If You...
- Hold an active or previous CPA certification.
- Possess a master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Have experience within nonprofit, healthcare, or mission-driven organizations.
- Bring expertise in retirement plan administration and payroll oversight.
