Position Overview:
The Controller is a critical financial leader at Horwitz, responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting functions, driving financial accuracy, and informing strategic decisions that support long-term growth. This individual exceeds financial integrity, operational efficiency, and team development, and plays a pivotal role in managing internal controls, budgeting, and reporting. These responsibilities generally describe the nature of the position and may not be all inclusive:
- Direct all accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with clarity and insights to support executive decision-making.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and provide regular forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modeling.
- Design and maintain internal control systems to safeguard assets, ensure accuracy in financial records, and support audit readiness.
- Partner with executive leadership to align financial strategies with company goals, ensuring sound planning and resource allocation.
- Oversee and manage organizational cash flow to maintain optimal liquidity and financial health.
- Coordinate with external partners including auditors, tax advisors, and banking institutions to ensure compliance and facilitate clean audit outcomes.
- Conduct Work-in-Progress (WIP) analyses to ensure proper revenue recognition and project costing.
- Leverage COINS accounting software to streamline processes, enhance reporting capabilities, and increase financial visibility across the organization.
- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and accuracy in financial operations.
- Mentor and support accounting team members to achieve high standards of performance and professional growth.

Supervisory Expectation:
- Provides leadership and oversight for the accounting team, ensuring cohesion, development, and a high-performing culture.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strategic financial leadership with a deep understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proven ability to build trust and collaborate cross-functionally.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with a focus on detail and timeliness.
- Adept at managing multiple priorities and working under pressure in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in accounting systems (especially COINS) and Microsoft Excel.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field .
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with a track record of leadership.
- Minimum of 2 years in a Controller capacity or 5+ years in an Accounting Manager capacity.
- Construction or building services industry experience highly desirable.
- Demonstrated success in managing audits, financial reporting, and WIP schedules.
