POSITION TITLE: Controller
SALARY STATUS: Salary / Exempt
REPORTS TO: CFO

Qualifications of Position:
- General knowledge and understanding of financial institutions/services and customer/member service principles
- Ability to prioritize tasks, and deal effectively with competing and changing priorities to meet deadlines
- Possess effective communication, organization, and technical writing skills
- Advanced level skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Familiarity with accounting principles.
- Must be able to work independently and as a good team member.
- Must be self-started and be able to use own judgment to undertake activities with minimal supervision.
- Working knowledge of current accepted accounting rules, practices, and reporting.
- Strong analytical skills.
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience in accounting, finance, or related field is preferred.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a sound knowledge of Credit Union accounting practices as well as state and federal regulations related to area of responsibility.
- Assist CFO in the oversight and management of the financial, accounting functions of the credit union to include AP, AR, budgets, collections, GL, investments, financial assessment, financial reporting and recordkeeping, payroll, and taxes, ALL/CECL calculations.
- Assist CFO with the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures for the accounting department. Ensure that policies and procedures reflect current regulations and that the accounting procedures are in strict compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Assist the CFO in monitoring cost control activities. Recommend cost control strategies on an as needed basis.
- Assist CFO with periodic financial reporting, financial analyses, cash management, and forecasting reports on monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Prepare and review credit union finance projections.
- Assist CFO with the preparation of budgets and periodic examination of budget variance.
- Participate in identifying deposit and loan rates.
- Participate in guidance regarding investment conclusions.
- Identify areas for improvement, changes in procedures, new developments, or changes in services.
- Assist CEO/ CFO/ COO with lease negotiation and major purchasing decisions for capital equipment or other capital asset expenditures.
- Performs financial analysis for other departments within the Credit Union, as needed. Develops periodic analysis tools to assist managers in the decision-making process.
- Work with regulatory agency examiners and auditors as needed.
- Travel to other locations, attend seminars, conferences, etc., is required.
- And other duties as assigned.
Regulatory Compliance & Confidentiality
Follows regulatory and policy compliance requirements, which include those efforts in compliance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Regulations, Identity Theft Red Flags and other compliance related policies. This position also requires maintaining confidentiality with regard to non-public information about our members and the Credit Union.
