We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented, friendly and energetic Controller to join our team and help power our next phase of growth.
Position Summary
The Controller at Wiles Companies is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the Accounting Department to ensure the production of accurate, timely, and compliant financial information in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This position plays a pivotal part in maintaining robust financial systems, internal controls, and reporting processes that support organizational growth and operational efficiency.
Reporting to executive leadership, the Controller is accountable for managing all core accounting functions, including general ledger reconciliation, payroll, tax filings, period-end closings, fixed asset tracking, and compliance reporting. The role requires hands-on expertise in financial analysis, policy development, audit preparation, and system improvements, as well as active participation in strategic initiatives.
In addition to financial stewardship, the Controller provides direct supervision, mentorship, and performance management to accounting staff, fostering a cooperative and high-performing team culture. The ideal candidate is an experienced financial professional with exceptional analytical, organizational, and leadership capabilities, and a deep commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes hiring, work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance; provides guidance and feedback for assigned staff
- Leads, directs, and manages the Accounting and Payroll departments in order to produce accurate, timely and relevant financial information
- Ensures that all employees are well informed of policies, procedures, and regulations
- Prepares financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and informational reports
- Ensures all accounting functions are appropriately and timely completed including accounts payable, payroll, general ledger reconciliation, tax preparation and filing, and period-end closing
- Ensures accounting processes financial reports are in compliance with GAAP
- Ensures effective internal controls are in place
- Manages the fixed assets, including tracking and recording fixed assets
- Files personal property tax returns
- Files monthly sales tax reports
- Submits monthly and quarterly sales reports to landlords as required
- Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies and objectives
- Leads or supports in developing and implementing projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals in accordance with regulations, company goals and GAAP
- Monitors and maintains Accounting management information systems, both manual and computerized
- Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective relationships with our Operations counterparts
- Supports the Operations team by providing reports, and general assistance in regard to their financials or any other aspect of the administrative side of the business
- Conduct financial, regulatory, and franchisor audits
- Participates in year-end closing and audit preparation
- Continually evaluates established policies and procedures, and assists in updates or modifications as necessary
- Conducts/attends staff meetings and trainings as necessary
- Performs additional duties as assigned and necessary
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited college or university (Master’s degree preferred)
- Minimum of five years’ accounting experience
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (with an emphasis on Excel)
- Ability to work with accounting software and within company financial database and make recommendations for efficient financial accounting and control systems as needed
- Sage Intacct, BILL, and/or Divvy experience is beneficial
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections
- Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals
- Employee development and performance management skills
- Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
- Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures
- Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with solid judgment and discretion is critical, as well as the ability to perform duties independently
- Must be familiar with governmental accounting in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Work Environment
This is a 100% onsite role based in our Albuquerque, NM headquarters.
No travel is required.
