Client Accounting Manager

Automated Accounting Services is seeking an experienced Remote Client Accounting Manager to lead and support our accounting team while ensuring clients receive accurate, timely, and exceptional service.

This vital position is responsible for overseeing the quality and consistency of client accounting work, coaching and developing team members, supporting client relationships, and helping maintain strong accounting processes and best practices throughout the firm.

This role works closely with our Operations team and firm leadership. While Operations is responsible for overall workflow, systems, and firmwide resource management, this position is accountable for the technical quality of accounting work and the performance and development of the accounting team.

Accounting Quality & Client Delivery

• Oversee the day-to-day accounting work performed by assigned team members.

• Review monthly client work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm standards.

• Review reconciliations, financial statements, supporting schedules, journal entries, and other month-end close work.

• Ensure client financials are completed accurately and within established deadlines.

• Identify accounting errors, inconsistencies, or process issues and provide clear feedback and direction for correction.

• Assist team members with complex accounting questions and troubleshooting.

• Serve as an escalation point for accounting-related client issues and concerns.

• Maintain a strong understanding of client businesses, accounting needs, and service expectations.

• Support controller-level services, including financial statement review, cash flow analysis, job costing, budget-to-actual reporting, and management reporting as applicable.

Team Leadership & Development

• Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and technical support to bookkeepers and accountants.

• Review team member performance and provide regular feedback and development opportunities.

• Support the onboarding and training of new accounting team members.

• Encourage accountability, ownership, collaboration, and proactive problem-solving within the accounting team.

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reduce errors, increase efficiency, and strengthen quality control.

• Collaborate with Operations on workflow or system improvements that affect accounting delivery.

• Maintain clear documentation of client-specific accounting procedures and requirements.

Client Onboarding & Relationships

• Support the accounting portion of new-client onboarding.

• Review existing accounting records and identify cleanup, conversion, or setup needs.

• Assist with accounting system configuration and development of appropriate workflows.

• Ensure new clients transition smoothly from onboarding into ongoing monthly services.

• Build strong, trusted relationships with clients through proactive and professional communication.

• Help clients understand their financial information and accounting processes.

• Respond to accounting-related questions and concerns promptly and thoughtfully.

• Anticipate potential accounting issues and work with the team to resolve them before they become larger problems.

Technology

• Maintain advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online.

• Work effectively with cloud-based accounting and financial technology, including platforms such as Double, Bill.com, Dext, Gusto, and client-specific applications.

• Troubleshoot accounting system and integration issues as needed.

• Learn new technology quickly and help team members adopt tools and processes effectively.

• Identify opportunities to use technology and automation to improve accounting accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.

• Experience working with multiple clients simultaneously in an outsourced accounting, CAS, bookkeeping, public accounting, or similar environment.

• 2-3 years of experience supervising, mentoring, or managing accounting staff.

• QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification preferred, or willingness to obtain it within 90 days.

• Strong understanding of accrual accounting, reconciliations, month-end close procedures, financial statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and general ledger accounting.

• Excellent analytical skills and keen attention to detail.

• Proven written and verbal communication skills.

• At ease communicating directly with clients and explaining accounting concepts clearly.

• Ability to coach others constructively and hold team members accountable.

• Strong proficiency with cloud-based technology and ability to learn new systems quickly.
