Silver Lake Regional School District, Superintendency Union #31 is seeking to fill an opening for a Bookkeeper for the district to begin as soon as possible.

Position: Secretary/Bookkeeper SLRSD 

Job Goal: To assist in the administration of the district’s business affairs so as to provide for the maximum educational services for the financial resources available. To assure the smooth and efficient operation of the office so that the maximum positive impact on the education of children can be realized.   

Supervision: Reports to Superintendent or Director of Finance and Operations                           

Education, Work Experience, and Licensure:

Required: High school diploma, GED or equivalent                                                                                                    

Preferred: At least two years of prior experience as a bookkeeper or other relevant position. An Associates Degree in Business or Accounting. Knowledge of school/municipal finances, budgets, reporting, borrowing and investments.      

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Answers telephone, acts as receptionist, handles inquiries, etc.
  2. Compiles and posts schedule of bills for all different departments and federal grants.
  3. Processes and files all purchase orders.
  4. Encumbers amounts on each purchase order.
  5. Checks items off purchase orders from packing slips after items have been received.
  6. Checks items off purchase orders from invoices, making sure packing slips and invoices correspond, confirming receipt of materials with staff.
  7. File bills alphabetically.
  8. Keep records of revolving accounts.
  9. Post expenditures to accounts.
  10. Check all statements from vendors each month.
  11. Contacts vendors/staff about any discrepancies on statements, or any items back ordered.
  12. Compiles monthly financial report.
  13. Works cooperatively with officials at town hall.
  14. Performs secretarial or clerical duties as assigned by Administration.
  15. Maintains an accurate accounting of various accounts pertaining to the position.
  16. Generates all checks (other than payroll) for disbursement.
  17. Posts all receipts.
  18. Maintains current files on all correspondence.
  19. Performs other related duties as assigned by Administration.

This is a full time, year round position. As a member of the SLEA Support Staff this is a union and benefits eligible position per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Salary is between $29.51 - $32.13 per hour based on experience and the SLEA contract.
