Job Title: Assistant Controller
Department: Finance
Reports To: Director of Finance and Data Science
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY
Directs DSC financial activities by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned by manager.
- Establishes, or recommends to management, major economic objectives and policies for company.
- Prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
- Assists in preparation of budgets.
- Coordinates insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
- Directs determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
- Arranges for audits of company's accounts, including but not limited to payroll, workers’ compensation, sales, liability, and annual CPA audit.
- Prepares and/or coordinates reports required by tax and regulatory agencies.
- Assists in the preparation of monthly financial information and reports containing operational information.
- Evaluates those reports and provides analysis to management as requested.
- Plans, develops, and implements automated accounting and operation systems.
- Ensures that billing is handled in a timely manner. Oversees electronic billing systems and other data transmittal requirements as necessary with manufacturing and customer.
- Develops company credit and collection policies and procedures and assures proper implementation.
- Assists in cash management function and cash forecasts.
- Oversees accounts payable function
- Performs payroll processing.
- Understanding and working knowledge of all job-related Quality Objectives, Quality System Policies, Procedures, and Instructions.
IMPACT ON CUSTOMER QUALITY Failure to perform these activities will likely result in dissatisfaction to the internal/external customer.
- Follow established instructions and quality standards.
- Communicates with vendors, customers, banks, and professionals regarding financial matters, ensuring accuracy and responding to their questions or concerns
- Communicates with governmental taxing authorities regarding financial matters.
- Responsible for the accuracy of customers’ account balances and detail which affects their perception of our quality. Communications to customers on these matters are of equal importance. Accuracy of credit review impacts the recommended credit limits for our customers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Has ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Also has ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
