Accounts Receivable Clerk

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

• The Accounts Receivable Clerk performs accounts receivable and medical billing functions to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement for services provided. This position is responsible for processing customer and insurance payments, researching and resolving payment discrepancies, maintaining accurate account records, and assisting with the daily billing process.

ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:

• This position requires a high school education or an equivalent of a GED. Must be proficient at keyboarding. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Apply customer, insurance, and electronic payments accurately to patient accounts.
• Post payments from checks, credit cards, Electronic Remittance Advices (ERAs), and Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
• Research and resolve payment discrepancies.
• Process credit card payments and account credits.
• Make account adjustments in accordance with company policies.
• Verify daily deposits before submission to the bank.
• Maintain accurate financial and billing records while ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Assist with assigned projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Comptroller.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of accounts receivable principles and medical billing procedures.
• Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and payer requirements.
• Understanding of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) processes.
• Ability to interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advices (ERAs).
• Experience using computerized billing systems, accounting software, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Regular work hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility as needed to meet business requirements. This position may be performed under a hybrid work arrangement, combining remote and in-office work based on operational needs and supervisor approval.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

• Sedentary work requires prolonged periods of sitting.
• Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and move throughout the office as necessary.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, printers, telephones, and calculators.
