The Accounting Specialist provides technical assistance in coordinating and processing department purchase requests, accounts payable, travel, and provides support related to finance and audit activities in accordance with federal and county guidelines.

We Require
- Two years of procurement, clerical accounting, bookkeeping, or similar experience
- High School Diploma or GED
Other Requirements
- Valid Arizona driver license at time of hire
- Must obtain Maricopa County Certified Agency Procurement Aide (CAPA) certification within two (2) months of hire
- Must complete background check and fingerprint identification upon hire to successfully secure and maintain DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card

- Knowledge of Accounting principles and practices
- Knowledge of County procurement policy
- Experience in public sector or non-profit accounting environment
- Experience with federal and state grants
- Experience and knowledge of CGI Advantage Financial System and OnBase
Job Contributions
- Compile, record, and reconcile accounts and financial transactions
- Post information and balance general and subsidiary ledgers and accounts
- Process payments and/or billings
- Perform accounts receivable duties
- Compile monthly closings and annual reports
- Maintain accounting and financial records
- Process journal vouchers
- Research account issues
- Audit budgetary and expenditure documents
- Gather statistical data and prepare worksheets and reports
- Explain accounting and financial procedures to employees and the public
- Senior-level incumbents may provide training and/or direct the work of less experienced employees
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Working Conditions
- Work is routinely performed in an office environment, which may require long periods of sitting, reading, and typing
- Requires travel to program sites throughout Maricopa County
- The position requires travel to and from various county, client, and contractor locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business
