Summary
A highly active private equity firm in Manhattan is seeking a VP of Finance to support the Controller across accounting, reporting, tax support, compliance, and investor/lender reporting.
This role reports directly to the Controller and works closely with a Staff Accountant on day-to-day accounting activity. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, public accounting experience, and the ability to connect detailed accounting work to the broader financial picture across multiple entities and investment structures.
Responsibilities
• Oversee and review the Staff Accountant’s day-to-day work, including general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, intercompany entries, and QuickBooks activity
• Prepare and review monthly financial reports, including balance sheets, P&L statements, and cash flow reports on tax, cash, and/or GAAP basis
• Maintain a clear understanding of each entity’s financial position and year-over-year trends, and flag issues, discrepancies, or opportunities to the Controller
• Support entity-level reporting, investor communications, lender reporting, and ad hoc financial projects
• Prepare workpapers and supporting schedules for outside accountants related to annual audits and tax return preparation
• Review draft tax returns and financial statements prior to issuance
• Oversee state tax estimates, quarterly filings, and compliance requirements to keep entities in good standing
• Track capital accounts, process capital calls, maintain sources and uses schedules, and prepare related journal entries
• Manage lender compliance, including loan covenant tracking and periodic reporting
• Review closing statements, including prorations, and handle post-closing true-ups
• Prepare cash flow and taxable income reporting, forecasts, and tax basis calculations for estimated gain on sale
• Maintain organized files, trackers, entity records, and supporting documentation across the firm’s portfolio
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through systems, AI, automation, and process improvements
Requirements
• 7+ years of accounting experience, including meaningful public accounting experience in audit or tax
• Real estate, investment management, private equity, partnership, or multi-entity accounting experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
• Strong tax and financial reporting skills, including experience with GAAP-basis financial statements, audit workpapers, and tax return support
• Experience with partnership structures, consolidations, capital accounts, capital calls, and real estate investment vehicles preferred
• Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and Microsoft Office
• Strong attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, and ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
• Able to work in a fast-paced, lean environment and handle both day-to-day accounting work and more complex accounting matters
