We are continuing to grow, and are looking for a Controller join our team.
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial activities of the business including the review of the monthly financials, reporting on trends to management, preparing and reviewing budget to actual performances and working on cash flow issues. Additionally, the Controller is responsible for working with the banks to ensure that lines of credit are in alignment with the company requirements. The Controller is also responsible for calculating all departmental labor and overhead rates.
The Controller performs duties in an independent manner with little to no supervision, exceeds heightened discretion given the sensitive nature of the Controllers duties, and looks for assistance on non-routine events and issues. The Controller has the authority to make staff selection and development decisions for the department.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Participates in the selection of the outside auditing firm and maintains ongoing relationships
- Participates in the selection of the bank relationships and provides bank with required reports
- Participates in the development of the corporation’s plans and programs as a strategic partner
- Evaluates and advises on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new strategies/services/product and regulatory actions
- Prepares all major audit schedules for the year-end audit
- Reviews and recommends adjustments to monthly financials
- Prepares annual budgets by department and company budget
- Preparation of the yearly financial statements including footnotes as one of the primary responsibilities
- Preparation of monthly financial reporting package to include balance sheet, income statement, variance to budget report, cashflow forecast, breakeven analysis and backlog
- Ensures all single source bids are in compliance with FAR (Federal Acquisition Rules)
- Prepares and maintains FAR accounting documentation and manuals and ensure all applicable staff are trained
- Participates in negotiations with various municipal authorities on FAR pricing and prepare answers to all FAR related questions
- Prepares all departmental labor and overhead rates for use in pricing proposals and for internal financial reporting
- Prepares and maintains software capitalization schedules for all research and development projects
- Leads the implementation of various modules in Axapta record keeping system
- Establishes and maintains systems and controls which verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data and enhance the Organization’s value
- Prepares all Canadian business and tax forms including HST, QST and PST
- Handles Canadian immigration papers and customs documentations
- Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities. Direct determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets
- Reviews Organizations benefits offering and advises management on recommendations for changes
- Handles RSP accounting documentation preparation and schedules
- Obtains proactive knowledge of tax and financial practices of countries the Organization has an interest is doing business with
- Prepares updates summary sheet for pricing breaking out fixed and variable overhead costs and their impact on meeting profitability goals
- Prepare tax information required for Corporate tax returns
- Recruiting, training, supervising and evaluating department staff
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting required
- 10+ years experience in a leadership role in accounting
- 4+ years experience in public accounting
- CPA certification and working knowledge of GAAP
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Advanced degree or certification
- Experience raising funds, understanding Capital markets and working with on Ex US finances

The compensation range posted for this position represents the anticipated minimum and maximum compensation for this position based upon a good faith and reasonable estimate. The exact compensation offered will depend on several factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, training, education and/or physical location; internal equity; and, budget.
