Connecticut State Colleges & Universities (CSCU) invites applications for the position of Vice Chancellor for Finance & Chief Financial Officer (VC/CFO).
The VC/CFO is CSCU’s senior financial executive and serves as the principal financial advisor to the Chancellor and Board of Regents for Higher Education. The position provides strategic leadership and oversight of the System’s financial operations and risk management and leads systemwide financial planning, budgeting, accounting, treasury, procurement, facilities, capital financing and financial information systems. The role works in close coordination with institutional presidents, chief financial officers and finance leaders across CSCU.

The Opportunity

The next VC/CFO will help establish and execute CSCU’s long-term financial strategy while strengthening financial governance, planning, transparency and operational effectiveness across the System. The role provides leadership across areas including:

Scope of the Role

As a System Office executive, the VC/CFO leads systemwide financial strategy and governance while working closely with institutional presidents, chief financial officers and finance leaders to coordinate priorities, establish common standards and practices, and support informed financial decision-making across CSCU. The VC/CFO serves as the management liaison to the Board of Regents Finance and Infrastructure Committee and provides executive support to the Audit Committee, as required.
Areas reporting directly to the VC/CFO include the Deputy CFO, Controller/Accounting, Purchasing (Procurement and Accounts Payable), Facilities, and Budget and Planning.

Education and Experience

MBA or other advanced degree from an accredited institution required. CPA or comparable work experience required. A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant executive-level work experience is required.

The successful candidate will understand that CSCU’s financial environment requires both strong systemwide leadership and productive institutional partnerships. The VC/CFO will need to bring clarity to complex financial issues, build trust across institutions and provide credible, timely guidance and data to the Chancellor, Board of Regents, institutional leaders and state partners.
The VC/CFO will be expected to establish clear financial strategy and direction, strengthen financial governance and accountability, and help CSCU navigate competing priorities in a highly visible public-sector environment. Success will require sound judgment, collaboration, transparency and the ability to balance student affordability and institutional needs with long-term financial sustainability.

Salary and Benefits
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $238,502-$298,128 annually (Executive 4). The salary offered will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications, including education and job-related experience, as well as internal equity.

Selection Procedure
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Applications received by the priority consideration date will receive full consideration during the initial review of candidates.
Following the priority consideration date, application materials will be evaluated by the Search Committee. Candidates selected for further consideration will be those who best meet the minimum and preferred qualifications and who have submitted all required application materials.

Candidates selected to advance in the process will be contacted for interviews. Following the interview process, finalists will be recommended for further consideration by the Hiring Manager, who will make the final selection and recommendation for employment. The selection process may also include additional assessments or exercises, as appropriate, to evaluate candidates’ qualifications for the position.
