Job Description – Senior Manager, Corporate Tax Compliance

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager – Corporate Tax Compliance to lead the delivery of corporate tax compliance and advisory services for a diverse portfolio of clients. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in U.S. corporate taxation, including tax return reviews, tax provisions, taxable income calculations, and multi-state tax compliance. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, operational excellence, and the ability to build trusted client relationships while developing high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage end-to-end corporate tax compliance engagements for a diverse portfolio of clients across multiple industries.
• Review complex Federal, State, and Local Corporate Income Tax Returns (Forms 1120, 1120S, and related schedules), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax laws.
• Review financial statements from a tax perspective and oversee the preparation and review of ASC 740 tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, effective tax rate analyses, and tax disclosures.
• Review and oversee the preparation of taxable income calculations, book-to-tax adjustments, and supporting tax workpapers.
• Manage multi-state tax compliance, including apportionment, nexus analysis, state tax filings, estimated tax payments, and extensions.
• Provide technical guidance on complex corporate tax matters, including accounting methods, consolidated returns, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate restructuring.
• Conduct technical tax research and prepare or review tax memoranda on complex federal and state tax issues.
• Identify tax planning opportunities and advise clients on strategies to optimize tax efficiency while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Serve as the primary client contact, building and maintaining strong relationships through proactive communication and high-quality service delivery.
• Lead engagement planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and execution to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
• Manage tax audits, notices, and inquiries from federal and state tax authorities, coordinating responses and supporting documentation.
• Drive process improvements, standardization, automation initiatives, and the effective use of tax technology to enhance operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with partners and cross-functional teams to support business development, proposals, client pursuits, and practice growth initiatives.
• Lead, coach, and mentor managers, seniors, and associates by providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and career development opportunities.
• Manage team utilization, resource planning, and capacity to ensure optimal staffing, efficient workload distribution, and timely delivery of client engagements.
• Drive team upskilling by mentoring, coaching, and facilitating technical learning initiatives, while monitoring and reporting key operational metrics, including utilization, productivity, and engagement performance to leadership.
• Ensure compliance with firm policies, quality standards, and risk management procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA, CA, or equivalent professional certification required.
• 14+ years of progressive experience in U.S. Corporate Tax Compliance, preferably within a public accounting or professional services environment.
• Strong experience with federal and multi-state corporate income tax compliance and tax reporting.
• Extensive knowledge of ASC 740, tax provisions, deferred taxes, taxable income calculations, and corporate tax accounting.
• Experience reviewing financial statements from a tax perspective and managing complex corporate tax engagements.
• Strong understanding of corporate tax regulations, consolidated returns, tax accounting methods, and state tax compliance.
• Proven experience leading client engagements and managing cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality work within deadlines.
• Strong analytical, tax research, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Experience with tax compliance and provision software such as OneSource, CCH Axcess, GoSystem, or similar platforms.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop talent while fostering a collaborative, high-performance team culture.
