Members of the state tax team are exposed to and manage a wide array of premium tax, state income tax, property tax and sales/use tax issues.

Note: This is a Hybrid opportunity (Boston or Seattle) with compensation dependent on candidate’s geographic location, overall experience, and skill level.

Responsibilities:

• Drive process improvement projects to improve accuracy, controls, and cycle time, including leveraging approved AI tools to streamline compliance activities, improve workpaper effectiveness, and increase the efficiency and quality of state tax processes.

• Identify and support the implementation of timely, cost-effective tax planning strategies designed to create value and enhance the Company's worldwide tax position. Develop and implement state income tax planning strategies to optimize effective tax rate and cash taxes.

• Provide state tax analysis and expertise; help drive planning strategies and engagement with other departments. Analyze corporate structures and business changes to uncover tax risks and opportunities.

• Work directly with internal and external supporting teams to ensure adherence to tax compliance deadlines and policies. Develop and oversee the implementation of processes that improve the efficiency of compliance related activities.

• Manage complex projects, ensuring adequate capabilities are available to deliver results. Recommend solutions to business, resource, or technical obstacles.

• Oversee tax research of state tax technical issues including preparation of memos and analysis. Present findings and recommendations to senior management.

• Manage Liberty’s strategies and responses to state tax audits; provide advice on state and local tax controversies, including IDR responses, appeals process and audit procedures.

• Provide tax guidance to business units and other corporate departments and collaborate with them to analyze and implement proposed strategies.

• Provide M&A and business transaction support, including due diligence.

• Provide state tax legislative analysis; monitor developments and provide technical support on potential impact to Liberty of proposed state tax legislation. Identify and communicate developments relevant to the Company to senior management.

• Manage all aspects of staff performance including engaging and motivating employees through honest feedback and coaching; effective management of performance that promotes our high performance culture.
