The role

As a Senior Tax Manager, you will play an important role within Segal’s growing Tax Practice, supporting a broad range of tax planning, compliance, advisory and client service activities. This role is well suited to a technically strong tax professional who enjoys working with private corporations, owner-managed businesses, high-net-worth individuals, trusts and estates, and who is ready to take on increased client management and team leadership responsibility. The Senior Tax Manager will work closely with Partners, Principals and senior members of the Tax Practice to deliver thoughtful, practical and high-quality tax advice. The role also provides the opportunity to mentor junior professionals, contribute to technical excellence, and support the continued growth and development of the Tax Practice. What you will do Client Advisory & Tax Planning

Manage and support tax planning engagements for private corporations, business owners, high-net-worth individuals, trusts and estates. Assist in the development and implementation of tax-efficient structures related to corporate reorganizations, estate freezes, succession planning, acquisitions, divestitures and wealth preservation strategies. Prepare and review tax planning memoranda, technical analysis, and client recommendations. Advise clients on Canadian income tax matters and identify practical planning opportunities to minimize risk and support client objectives. Build trusted relationships with clients by providing responsive, accurate, and business-focused tax advice. Support Partners and senior tax leaders in managing key client relationships and complex advisory matters.

Tax Compliance & Technical Excellence

Review corporate, personal, trust and partnership tax returns. Research and resolve complex tax issues and provide technical guidance to engagement teams. Monitor relevant tax legislation and regulatory developments and assist in assessing the implications for clients. Support technical consultations involving complex or higher-risk tax matters. Ensure tax work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with firm quality standards. Identify opportunities to improve compliance processes, templates, and internal tax resources.

Team Leadership & Development

Provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship to Tax Associates and CPA students. Review work prepared by junior team members and provided clear, constructive feedback. Delegate work effectively and help ensure that client deliverables are completed on time and to a high standard. Support the professional development of team members by sharing technical knowledge and encouraging continuous learning. Contribute to a collaborative, high-performance team environment focused on quality, accountability and client service.

Client Service & Engagement Management

Manage multiple tax engagements and client deadlines simultaneously. Coordinate with Assurance, Advisory and Family Office teams to support integrated client service. Communicate with clients and internal teams in a clear, timely, and professional manner. Assist with engagement planning, workflow management, and resource coordination. Proactively identify issues, risks and planning opportunities and escalate appropriately to Partners or senior tax leaders.

Practice Support & Business Development

Support Partners and senior leaders in identifying opportunities to expand existing client relationships. Assist with proposals, presentations, and client development initiatives as required. Participate in internal tax training, knowledge sharing, and practice development activities. Contribute to tax alerts, technical updates, seminars, or educational sessions for clients and team members. Help strengthen Segal’s profile as a trusted advisor to private companies, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth clients.

What You Bring Education & Professional Credentials

CPA designation is required. Completion of, or enrolment in, the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program is strongly preferred. Master of Taxation, or equivalent advanced tax training, would be considered an asset. Membership in professional tax organizations would be considered an asset.

Experience

Minimum 5 to 7 years of progressive public accounting tax experience, with at least 2 years as a manager, ready to move to Senior Manager. Strong experience advising private companies, entrepreneurs, owner-managed businesses, and high-net-worth individuals. Experience with corporate reorganizations, estate and succession planning, trust taxation and tax compliance. Proven ability to manage multiple engagements, deadlines, and client relationships. Experience reviewing tax work and mentoring junior professionals. Demonstrated interest in client service, advisory work, and continued technical development.

Skills & Competencies

Strong technical knowledge of Canadian income tax legislation. Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to explain complex tax matters in a practical, client-friendly manner. Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills. High attention to detail and commitment to quality. Collaborative team player with a proactive and service-oriented approach. Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial, growing professional services environment. Proficiency with TaxPrep, CaseWare, and Microsoft Office applications.

The annual salary range of  $125,000 - $170,000 CAD, based on skills, experience, and education.
