Position Summary
The Staff Property Accountant is responsible for understanding and reconciling all balance sheet and income statement accounts, and analyzing any variances from budgeted accounts. This position reports to a Property Accounting Team Lead.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare journal entries, worksheets, reconciliation and other documentation to ensure that transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP.
- Review transactions and make recommendations for accruals and deferrals.
- Prepares monthly financial reports.
- Reviews Balance Sheet and Income Statements per property to verify account balances and reasonable revenue and expense amounts.
- Ensures accuracy of all general ledger information.
- Ensures that all property and tenant information is up to date and correct through lease interpretation and cross-referencing against other property information.
- Assists in the review of monthly account reconciliations and journal entries.
- Meets Accounting Department calendar deadlines.
- Help in the approve process of accounts payable invoices for payment.
- Assist with the preparation of bank reconciliations.
- Assists with the preparation of business plans and special projects.
- Improves process related to above duties and responsibilities.
Education / Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required
- 2 or more years of accounting experience preferred.
- Knowledge of standard and/or fund accounting principles, methods, and applications preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Meticulous attention to details and accuracy.
- Flexible outlook toward task management.
- Real estate industry experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, especially Excel).
- MRI experience helpful
