About The Job:
Lakeside HR Group has been engaged by our client to recruit a Senior Tax Advisor to join their growing team. Our client is a relationship-focused tax firm that helps individuals and business owners make informed financial decisions through accurate tax preparation, clear guidance, and proactive year-round planning.
This is an opportunity for an experienced tax professional who wants to do more than seasonal return preparation. The Senior Tax Advisor will manage a recurring client portfolio, lead client conversations, provide practical tax advice, and identify planning opportunities that create meaningful value. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role with significant client responsibility and the opportunity to help improve internal processes as the firm continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and complete federal and state tax returns for individuals and businesses.
- Manage a recurring client portfolio while providing responsive, organized, and high-quality service.
- Lead client conversations throughout the tax process, including document collection, missing-information follow-up, return delivery, estimated-tax discussions, balance-due conversations, and proactive planning.
- Work with individuals, business owners, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, trusts, estates, and multi-state tax matters based on experience and portfolio needs.
- Identify and communicate tax-planning opportunities related to estimated payments, retirement contributions, business deductions, entity structure, owner compensation, fringe benefits, charitable giving, and other appropriate strategies.
- Collaborate with financial advisors, bookkeepers, payroll providers, attorneys, tax preparers, administrative staff, and firm leadership.
- Maintain accurate client notes, workflow updates, supporting documentation, and clearly defined next steps.
- Research technical tax matters, document conclusions, and escalate complex issues when appropriate.
- Help improve the client experience, internal workflows, documentation, and tax-planning processes.
- Share knowledge and support team members without formal people-management responsibilities.
Required Skills:
- At least three years of recent experience as a signing tax-return preparer with primary responsibility for return accuracy.
- Active PTIN and eligibility to sign returns as a paid preparer.
- Experience independently preparing and reviewing federal and state individual income-tax returns.
- Business tax experience, including Schedule C businesses and at least one of the following: partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, trusts, estates, or related state filings.
- Experience communicating directly with clients regarding tax results, missing information, estimated taxes, balances due, deadlines, and next steps.
- Strong judgment, attention to detail, organization, client-service skills, and follow-through.
- An active Enrolled Agent or CPA credential is preferred.
- Experience with year-round advisory services, business-owner planning, owner 1040s, retirement and charitable planning, entity structure, and estimated-tax strategies is preferred.
- Familiarity with tax software, document portals, workflow tools, CRM systems, QuickBooks, and tax research platforms is preferred.
Benefits:
- Annual performance bonus eligibility.
- 401(k) plan with employer matching contribution.
- Paid time off and paid holidays.
- Support for approved CPE, EA or CPA renewal, professional memberships, and technical training.
- Training on tax research, technology, workflow, and software tools.
- A defined client portfolio with workload adjusted based on complexity and demonstrated capacity.
- Opportunities to expand year-round advisory and tax-planning experience.
- A collaborative, client-centered team environment.
- No formal employee-management requirement.
