ACT Entertainment is a distributor of professional lighting, video, and audio-visual technology serving the live events, broadcast, house-of-worship, corporate, and installation markets. The company operates through three businesses — ACT Lighting, tvONE, and Ambersphere Solutions — with operations across the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada, as well as a global presence. We are building a modern, high-performing finance organization, and this role is a key part of that effort.

Position Summary:

The Senior Tax Accountant will own the company's tax compliance function end-to-end. This is not a return-preparation role. It is a project-management and quality-assurance role: you will direct our outside tax advisors, own the global compliance calendar, ensure every filing across 23+ U.S. states and four countries is accurate and on time, and audit the source data that feeds our tax reporting. You will be the single point of accountability for tax at ACT, working directly with the CFO and the broader Finance & Accounting team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Compliance calendar and deadline management. Own the global tax compliance calendar across all entities and jurisdictions — federal, state, and local income/franchise tax in the U.S. (35+ states) and corporate tax, VAT/GST, and related filings in the UK, Canada, and Ireland. Track every deadline, extension, estimated payment, and notice.
• Outside advisor management. Serve as day-to-day project manager for external tax advisors and preparers in each country. Scope engagements, set timelines, manage information requests, review deliverables for accuracy and completeness, and manage fees against budget.
• Source data integrity. Audit and reconcile the source data provided to preparers — trial balances, fixed asset registers, apportionment data, intercompany activity, and sales data — to the general ledger before it leaves the building. Identify and resolve discrepancies at the root.
• Tax reporting and provision. Own the accuracy of tax-related reporting, including the income tax provision and related balance sheet accounts, deferred tax schedules, and tax footnote support for the annual audit. Reconcile tax accounts monthly as part of the close.
• Sales and use tax. Prepare and/or review sales and use tax filings across U.S. jurisdictions, monitor nexus and registration requirements, maintain exemption certificate compliance, and manage the sales tax software and filing cadence.
• Notices, audits, and documentation. Manage responses to tax notices, inquiries, and audits from federal, state, and foreign authorities in coordination with outside advisors. Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation for all filings.
• Cross-border coordination. Coordinate with the UK finance team and international advisors on cross-border matters, including transfer pricing documentation support, withholding tax, and intercompany charge compliance.
• Process and controls. Build and maintain the tax compliance playbook: standardized checklists, data request templates, and a tracking dashboard that gives the CFO real-time visibility into filing status, open items, and risk.
• Planning support. Monitor legislative and regulatory changes across our jurisdictions, assess their impact, and bring recommendations to the CFO. Support tax-related analysis for business initiatives, entity changes, and transactions as needed.

• Other duties as required. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Will oversee as the role develops and grows.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

• 3–5 years of progressive experience in a corporate or public accounting tax environment.
•  Big 4 experience is required (PwC, Deloitte, EY, or KPMG).
•  Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from a top-tier university. Master's in Taxation or CPA (or active progress toward it) strongly preferred.
•  Hands-on exposure to multi-state income/franchise tax and sales and use tax compliance.
•  Working knowledge of ASC 740 and the income tax provision process.
•  Demonstrated ability to manage multiple outside service providers, competing deadlines, and stakeholders across functions and geographies.
•  Advanced Excel skills and a strong reconciliation mindset — you tie things out before you sign off.
•  Excellent written and verbal communication; able to explain tax issues clearly to non-tax colleagues and executives.
• Exposure to international tax compliance (UK, Canada, and/or Ireland), VAT/GST, or transfer pricing preferred.
•  Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics AX, NetSuite, or Xero, and with sales tax platforms such as Avalara or Vertex preferred.
•  Experience in a private equity–backed, multi-entity, or distribution/inventory-based business preferred.
•  Experience in a smaller company or in-house environment where you built or improved processes rather than inherited them preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 25%.
