Senior Payroll Analyst

Job Purpose

We’re looking for a passionate Senior Payroll Analyst to join our People Support Team!The Senior Payroll Analyst functions as the payroll subject matter expert, supporting and executing weekly, monthly, off-cycle, and bonus payroll cycles while ensuring accuracy and compliance. They are responsible for resolving complex internal and external payroll inquiries, collaborating closely with HR, Finance, Accounting, and other business partners, and proactively following up on issues through to resolution while providing regular updates to stakeholders. The role also includes preparing and submitting State and Federal employment tax filings, working directly with tax authorities to resolve discrepancies and notices, and assisting with the validation and preparation of Form W-2 documentation.

This role is based out of our Syracuse office, with a requirement to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week. This is subject to change as business needs evolve. You are welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you.

What You'll Do

• Assist with processing payroll using SAP in-house payroll system.
• Create and review payroll reports and troubleshoot issues.
• Perform business system testing as needed.
• Assist with evaluation of testing for tax and system updates.
• Build upon knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and changing payroll rules and regulations.
• Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to obtain and share information and best practices that will benefit National Grid.
• Assist with year-end balancing.
• Act as a resource in interacting with the company's employees, Business Partners, Labor Partners, and executive level employees on issues involving varying degrees of difficulty concerning pay and payroll.
• Assist with Federal and State employment tax filings.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee data
• Assist and coordinate work on projects by contributing to developing project standards and processes.
• Represent Payroll Operations in matters involving Internal Audit and Sarbanes Oxley teams, providing the necessary documentation and responses which support the operation's internal control procedures.
• Keep up to date with regulatory developments within payroll environment to ensure the optimization of best practice for National Grid
• Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to do things better to drive greater efficiencies.

What You'll Have

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field in a shared services environment.
• 5+ years’ experience in a senior payroll operations role.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.
• SAP experience preferred.
• Knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies and practices preferred.
• Knowledge of relevant industry practice and legislation.
• Must be able to work under pressure of time constraints and be able to function in a flexible, constantly changing environment.
• Must be familiar with strong internal control concepts and knowledge of SOX principles and controls for payroll.
• Understanding of project management techniques and methods.

Salarybetween $86,000 - $95,000 dependent on experience.
