Key roles and responsibilities Tax Systems Business Ownership Lead the administration, maintenance, testing, and operation of enterprise tax determination engines (e.g., Vertex O Series, Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, Avalara) integrated with core ERP - Org62 and legacy billing systems to meet evolving business needs and legislative requirements. Serve as the strategic translator between Tax, IT, Software Integrators, and Finance Leadership to align business growth initiatives with scalable tax systems architecture. Collaborate with technical teams on errors/bug resolution and enhancements; develop AI driven resolutions (ongoing project) . Optimize exemption certificate management tools and automate customer taxability mapping within tax engine and billing workflows. Go-To-Market (GTM) & Company Strategic Initiatives (CSIs) Serve as the primary indirect tax advisor for the business, partnering with Product, Legal, and Sales teams to structure global go-to-market strategies to support new products (e.g. bi-weekly NPI releases, GTM App, the new Salesforce Marketplace) , ensuring tax requirements, design specs, and mapping rules are accurately gathered, configured, and tested. Own the maintenance of product taxability determinations and tax registrations, including tax engine rules and requirements. Perform tax research on a variety of indirect tax issues, respond to requests for indirect tax guidance from customers, vendors, and business partners (complex cases) . M&A Lead the indirect tax AMER workstream integrating acquired entities into core tax systems; assess maintenance needs of legacy entities tax systems (e.g. Avalara for Heroku online, SureTax for Slack self-serve) . Determine post-acquisition compliance integration approaches—to remediate inherited risks and position acquired entities for long-term, scalable compliance. Audit Defense Manage the audit lifecycle during the controversy stage; set procedures for stat sampling. Work with senior tax leadership on planning and resolutions strategies. Special Projects, AI & Automation Initiatives Champion team adoption of AI tools, analytics and LLM to automate existing processes (reduce risk and time to completion), including mapping product catalogs to taxability codes, UAT tools to automate testing and review. Develop Support the GTI OpsTech roadmap for indirect taxes to improve processes and technology Other special projects, including reverse audits. Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and elevate teammates transitioning from traditional tax compliance backgrounds into system analysis, data analytics, and project leadership roles. Location: San Francisco, Business Justification Strategic Alignment with the team in San Francisco The role's key activities are tightly coupled with the team and functions that are located in San Francisco - the “center of gravity” to support this role’s function. The role requires close coordination and real time discussions to problem solve and iterate; co-location shortens the feedback loop, fosters common understanding. This aligns with other locally based teams, including DET. (Note: Atlanta presence is the indirect tax team hub for compliance related activities that are not directly related to this role’s duties.) The typical base salary range for this position is $150,100 - $227,000 annually. In select cities within the San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area, the base salary range for this role is $180,200 - $247,900 annually. The range represents base salary only, and does not include company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity or benefits, as applicable.
