Your opportunity
Reporting to the Tax Partners, this role is responsible for providing tax planning, compliance, and advisory services to privately held businesses, high-net-worth individuals, trusts, estates and corporate groups. The role involves managing client relationships, leading complex tax engagements, supervising tax professionals, and contributing to the growth and development of the firm’s tax practice.
Your major responsibilities
- Provide tax planning advise to private companies, owner-managers, and high-net-worth individuals. This can include advising on corporate reorganizations, acquisitions and dispositions, estate and succession planning, and cross-border tax matters.
- Review personal, corporate and trust income tax returns as well as partnership information returns
- Provide inbound advisory services to international cross-border clients
- Play a key role in managing the processes and procedures during tax season
- Research and interpret Canadian income tax legislation, case law and administrative positions and communicate internally and to clients
- Prepare and review technical memoranda and tax planning reports
- Participate in client meetings and presentations
- Collaborate with assurance, accounting, and advisory teams to deliver integration client solutions.
- Prepare proposals and participate in business development initiatives.
- Contribute articles and thought leadership content for marketing and client educational purposes
- Manage, mentor and coach Tax Managers, Senior Tax Specialists and Tax Specialists.
- Assist with recruitment, performance evaluations, and staff development.
- Actively participate in all engagement phases including budget, analysis of work-in-progress, drafting of invoices and management of accounts receivables
What we look for
- 8-12 years of experience within a public accounting firm, with at least three years at the manager level.
- Significant experience advising private companies and owner-managed businesses.
- Exposure to US and international tax matters is considered an asset.
- A CPA designation
- Completion of the In-Depth Tax, or Masters of Tax Program
- Knowledge of CaseWare and Tax Prep
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients or other parties
- Ability to solve practical and complex problems
- Research and information gathering skills
- Organizational skills for prioritizing demands, workflow, and meeting deadlines
- Must have a strong commitment to quality
- Ability to take a leadership role on engagements
- Solid understanding of business professionalism and the ability to work in a team environment
